I realize of course that qdvdauthor is technically still beta, and I hope I don't upset anyone with my frequent bug reports...
I don't know if the issues below affect your development system, but on my box (running Ubuntu Edgy, built qdvdauthor from source, and using KDE 3.5.5), several of the program's windows show design and/or useability errors that really need corrected.
In the "New Project Wizard" dialog, that blue background has gotta go (black text on dark blue is hard to read). The window should either be reduced in size or the two dialogs that make up the wizard should be combined into one, to make use of all that empty space.
In the main screen, if you don't add a background image, the size of the DVD frame never gets set up, and there is no option anywhere to configure it. The "Visible Region" box gets mis-painted in this case, if you happen to maximize the window. Also, the red selection boxes that appear when adding text/image/movie objects leave trails in this case.
In the VMGM and other menus, if you embed a movie into the menu that is big enough to fill the frame, the "Visible Region" box disappears entirely (but the menu option remained checked).
Structure -> Right-click VMGM or submenu -> Properties
(The entire window is about half as big as needed. The length of the start/end slider at the bottom should scale up/down with the width of the window - if the window is too big, the movie thumbnails start repeating)
DVDAuthor -> Add From Template -> (select a template and hit "Next >")
(The text at the top is partially cut off)
DVDAuthor -> Add Slideshow Source
(The field under "Add Imges" is too small)
Right-click -> Add Text
(The Text entry field should always use black text on a white background, otherwise if the text background is left transparent/disabled, you end up with white text on the default white background in the text entry field. Also, you cannot reset back to a disabled background color if you choose one, even if you Cancel the window - that is, you can't turn the "X" back on.)
Right click any button you've added -> Edit Image
(The window needs to be taller to show what's below the preview. Since this dialog only affects the background image, this menu option needs to be renamed to "Edit Background Image")
Right Click any button you've added -> Edit Button -> Normal tab
(There is no option anywhere to actually change out the image for something new. One is forced to delete the image from the main context menu and add a new one)
Open Konqueror, Gthumb or a regular QT/KDE file selector and drag and drop an image or video file onto the menu background. Instead of a dialog offering settings, or a thumbnail appearing where you dropped, you only get a filename/path instead.
In the Subtitles menu under "Font", the area given to the list of fonts should scale vertically with the size of the window, otherwise its only big enough to list 4 or 5 fonts and there's lots of empty space below it and the other buttons when the window is maximized.
Occasionally, the left scroll arrow at the right of the menu tab bar fails to show the left-most menu tab, if a very thin slice is already visible (the normal behavior is to keep scrolling until the entire tab is visible).
In the "XML out" tab, the options for showing the XML for the various menus need to be renamed so that they explicitly indicate they're showing Subtitle XML.
It would be adviseable to have the program remeber the sizes of file selector dialogs, the command execution window, the main window, and remember the position of the two handles that are used to divide the window between the preview, Structure/Titleset and audio/video source listings.

Additionally, the Tools->Setup window, on Solaris with Blastwave's Qt 3.3.4, spawns at two times the width of my screen. To make matters worse, I am unable to horizontally resize the window.
+1 for the background colour (not) changing on certain dialogs -- it is not a good first impression.
