I tried to install Q4OS on my laptop HP Compaq dual core 2Gb RAM but after installation menu screen turns black and stays black. I already installed several Debian distros on it as wel as some ubuntu and arch distro without any problem; With the same bootable USB stick I installed Q4OS on an old Medion laptop ( >10 yrs ) with succes, I also installed it on my desktop and no problems there; Any idea what is going on with the HP laptop ?

You could switch into tty console, press 'ctrl+alt+f1', login and check log files in /var/log/installer.
Run 'reportq4' command and attach generated debug file here for us to analyze.

"menu screen", see .png attached.As soon as I make a choice and press "enter" screen turns black and stays that way untill I power off. i have the same issue with CD in stead off usb, I also already tried both 32 and 64 bit, as well as an older version. Same result. When should I press 'ctrl+alt+f1', and run 'reportq4' ?
Hi there,
Not sure if this will help, but it works for me.
Whichever install option you go for, press 'TAB' key first.
The actual menu entry should appear. At the end of that line, add the following:
edd=off
then press enter.
If it works, and the install is successful, you should not have to do it again.
(My Toshiba will not boot most distros unless I do that on first boot.)
HTH,
Phil

Press 'TAB' on classic install menu entry and add kernel boot parameter 'acpi=off'. You might need to adjust your BIOS settings to enable standard VGA mode too.

Thanks for the advice.

Update: you could try to overwrite 'vga=normal' kernel parameter with 'vga=ask'. You will be asked to choose a video mode for installer, we recommend to select one of 'VESA' modes depending on laptop's display resolution.

What do you mean by 'menu screen' ?
