I'm running on Ubuntu Hoary using the command line: PYTHONPATH=/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages python racer.py (I'm just following http://soya.literati.org/FAQ#head-7d126a2b138bc565c93d8383dfaae136e4ddefcb from the Soya FAQ - blender gets unhappy without the preable setting PYTHONPATH explicitly...) I get the following output: mark@maw48:~/pywracer$ PYTHONPATH=/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages:. python racing.py racing.py /home/mark/pywracer/racing.pyc * Soya 3D * Using 8 bits stencil buffer * Soya 3D * version 0.9 * Using OpenGL 1.3.4769 (X4.3.0-8.8.25) * - renderer : RADEON X300 Generic * - vendor : ATI Technologies Inc. * - maximum number of lights : 8 * - maximum number of clip planes : 6 * - maximum number of texture units : 8 * - maximum texture size : 2048 pixels Starting Idler... I've had a poke about in the code - I'm happy with Python but I'm not sure I know enough about Soya. The game looks cool and I might hack on it a bit if I can get it working. Cheers, Mark |

I have finished packaging the aformentioned directory, and despite my best efforts to remove all unnecessary files, the folder ended up being 26 mbs. However, zipping it brought it down to only 7 :) In light of that, would it be more appropriately place in cvs or the project page? Daniel Bickett |

Ok, I've just dolled up the setup script for distribution, but it's worth noting that it works with modified files and directories. For that reason, I think it would be best to commit a directory containing all of the custom modifications as well as the setup script. Does that sound good? Here is a summary of progress (or, rather, the lack thereof) of the windows package: Notes: using latest vers. of py2exe Simply packaging and running the executable will generate an error relating to missing data files originally in soya's site-package folder. This error is solved by creating a 'data' folder where the exe is, and copying the relevant files into it. The next error comes when the exe is looking for the pywracer data files in 'library.zip'. Manually packaging the data folder into 'library.zip' does not work, which I suppose should have been expected, so one has to go into 'racing.py' and change how it references the directory it is in. You must use 'os.getcwd()', and copy pywracer's data files into the same 'data' directory that soya's data files are (no replacements to worry about), and presumably this works because the error goes away. The next error that comes, I have not been able to get around. 'racing.py' tries to import 'fonts', the custom module that comes with pywracer, and there is an ImportError, saying the module doesn't exist. In double checking library.zip i found that fonts.pyc was, indeed, there. I have no solution for this problem :( I'm considering trying one of the other two python 'freezer's (executable makers), because, although they are all similar, perhaps one of them is more intuitive regarding the problem I am having than py2exe, perhaps not. All is not lost, however. If converting this application to an exe is undoable, we can still create a package that includes all of the dependencies for convenience's sake. And, if in the future we deem it necessary, I can still use HMNIS edit to create windows installers. Any comments? questions? Daniel Bickett |

If anyone knows how to compile this library under Mac OS X, please tell. // ld: archive: /usr/local/lib/libode.a has no table of contents, add one with ranlib(1) (can't load from it) error: command 'gcc' failed with exit status 1 // |

Happy new year Dunk I have added a few comments, just looks like the SDL location to sort out next. Ignore my bleat about pyGame, then. Because SDL maybe all that is required. This pyRex stuff is so cool, didn't know about that. Will get back to work on this before midnight, hopefully. On 31 Dec 2004, at 13:43, dunk wrote: >> Yeah just been looking, thanks. Yeah just been looking, thanks. Next problem was freetype which I am downloading. I am documenting my resolution... Was pyGame too slow for this project? That works under native, I suspect I am going to have to install X11 to get a compatible Unix-like setup which is a bit annoying. I took the time to rapidly model a ship. As a newcomer's gift ;) Hope you like it. It has no texture for now, only the mesh. 92 quad faces -> 174 tris for reference, the ship shipped :) with pywracer 'ship.blend' is: 112 quads -> 224 tris http://skarsnik.free.fr/settra/1/pywracer/ |
