Bugs item #2985146, was opened at 2010-04-10 15:05 Message generated for change (Tracker Item Submitted) made by david_abrahams You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=551954&aid=2985146&group_id=78018 Please note that this message will contain a full copy of the comment thread, including the initial issue submission, for this request, not just the latest update. Category: None Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: David Abrahams (david_abrahams) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Confusing error message Initial Comment: I installed Python 2.6 yesterday using the standard Windows installer and, accepting all the defaults Today I tried to install pywin32 but the installation failed with the message that it couldn't find Python 2.6 in the registry! That was pretty confusing until I realized I had installed the 32-bit python and was trying to install the amd64 pywin32. The installer should check for such cases and give a better error message. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=551954&aid=2985146&group_id=78018 |

Category: pythonwin Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: easperhe (easperhe) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Newbie Pythonwin (build214) questions Initial Comment: All, I just started using Pythonwin (build214) interactive Window yesterday. I was experimenting with View/Options. I'm having 2 problems. I've googled/search and can't find anything on these 2 issues: * The "tab size" and "indent size" and "insert spaces" options don't seem to work for me. Am I missing something basic here? I've been playing around with it quite a bit and can't see to get them to work. * I much prefer my background to be black when developing code. I did find that I could do this by setting the background color of "whitespace" to black. The only problem is that I can no longer see my black cursor then. For the mean time, I'm using a gray background. Thanks in Advance! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: easperhe (easperhe) Date: 2010-04-08 14:42 Message: All, I realized the "tab size" and "indent size" only pertains to the script window and not the interactive window. Not sure why. But, I can live this the tab size and indent size only impacting the script window. Still wondering if anyone knows how to modify the black cursor to another color. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=551954&aid=2984089&group_id=78018 |

I think bug #2092722 may indicate that there is a problem installing in a virtualenv via setup.py as well. I know my build with VS10 failed with a related error. You probably noticed some recent spam from lin_2008 - sadly that was my fault - the messages were pending moderation, but as they were replies to legitimate mailing-list messages, I was fooled into approving them. Sneaky! Sorry 'bout that... Mark |

Category: pythonwin Group: None >Status: Closed >Resolution: Fixed Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Steven Craft (rockthesmurf) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: DuplicateHandle to different process Initial Comment: I am not sure if this is necessarily a bug - it feels like it to me, but either way it would be helpful if the documentation at least mentioned it. If you call win32api.DuplicateHandle and specify the target process NOT to be the current process, the handle you get back will be ref counted etc. and when it goes out of scope CloseHandle will be called on it, but of course the handle in question is not owned by the current process, so causing CloseHandle on it is not the right thing to do, doing this will cause problems much later on (in my case, it doesn't complain when the handle is closed, but at some point later, when I call win32pipe.CreatePipe I get a bad handle back (and it has the same number as the handle that was incorrectly closed previously). The manual fix for this is easy, I just need to call Detach( ) on any handles that I duplicate in to other processes, but it took me a while to track this down etc. which is why I though it is worth logging a bug, so if nothing else it could be documented to save others having similar problems! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Roger Upole (rupole) Date: 2010-01-26 12:46 Message: Thanks for the report.
