Unicode paths that start with \?\ can have up to 32767 characters. The current implementation of PyGetLongPathNameW in win32apimodule.cpp does not support long unicode paths, because it uses a pathBuffer of size MAX_PATH and it incorrectly interprets the return value of GetFullPathNameW as a BOOL. The PyGetLongPathNameW function in the attachment has been modified to use an allocated buffer if GetLongPathNameW reports that pathBuffer is too small. It is based on the win32apimodule.cpp of build 201.1. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=551956&aid=945636&group_id=78018 |

Bugs item #938098, was opened at 2004-04-20 05:25 Message generated for change (Comment added) made by mhammond You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=551954&aid=938098&group_id=78018 Category: com Group: None >Status: Pending >Resolution: Wont Fix Priority: 5 Submitted By: bob gailer (ramrom) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: InvokeTypes returns int instead of PYIDispatch object Initial Comment: Python program fragment. Assumes excel dispatched as a COM object, with a worksheet with a chart: sc = chart.SeriesCollection() sc.Add(series_range, seriesAddDirection) The last line causes an error. Here's the method code generated for Add by the dispatch module: def Add(self, Source=pythoncom.Missing, Rowcol=2, SeriesLabels=pythoncom.Missing, CategoryLabels=pythoncom.Missing, Replace=pythoncom.Missing): ret = self._oleobj_.InvokeTypes(181, LCID, 1, (9, 0), ((12, 1), (3, 49), (12, 17), (12, 17), (12, 17)),Source, Rowcol, SeriesLabels, CategoryLabels, Replace) if ret is not None: ret = Dispatch(ret, 'Add', '{0002086B-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}', UnicodeToString=0) return ret The call to InvokeTypes returns integer 1 rather than a PyIDispatch object. Originally reported under Bug 841605. Creating new bug since I have researched this in much more detail than before. This is as far as I can go without help. I have clients waiting to use my program as soon as we can fix it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Mark Hammond (mhammond) Date: 2004-04-29 10:42 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=14198 Noting the dupe is [ 841605 ] com->Excel: 'int' object has no attribute 'GetTypeInfo'. I'm afraid this is going in the "excel bug" category, unless further information comes along. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=551954&aid=938098&group_id=78018 |

( it may always have been a problem). I have a script I am developing that uses PyGame to display some pictures. Whenever I run the script from PythonWin, the script can exit normally but the program window (the PyGame window that is) becomes a zombie. It should close at script exit like when I run it from any other IDE. In fact, the only way I can get it to close is by closing PythonWin itself. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Mark Hammond (mhammond) Date: 2004-04-29 09:43 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=14198 This is a known problem, and one that we can't easily fix. The problem is Pythonwin is running your app inside Pythonwin's own process. I expect pygame doesn't like that environment. Another solution would be to run the programs externally, but in some ways that defeats some of Pythonwin's benefits. I'd fix it if I could ;) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=551954&aid=897229&group_id=78018 |

The window contains File "C:\PROGRAMS\PYTHON\Lib\site- packages\Pythonwin\pywin\framework\intpyapp.py", line 163, in InitInstance import interact File "C:\PROGRAMS\PYTHON\Lib\site- packages\Pythonwin\pywin\framework\interact.py", line 26, in ? import winout File "C:\PROGRAMS\PYTHON\Lib\site- packages\Pythonwin\pywin\framework\winout.py", line 26, in ? from pywintypes import UnicodeType File "C:\PROGRAMS\PYTHON\Lib\site-packages\win32 \lib\pywintypes.py", line 55, in ? __import_pywin32_system_module__("pywintypes", globals()) File "C:\PROGRAMS\PYTHON\Lib\site-packages\win32 \lib\pywintypes.py", line 48, in __import_pywin32_system_module__ raise ImportError, "Can not locate " + filename exceptions.ImportError: Can not locate pywintypes23.dll ------------------ end of error window contents I found the file pywintypes23.dll my C:\Programs\Python installation folder (I can't remember which subfolder) and copied it to the folders that seemed likely: C:\Programs\Python\DLLs, C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM, C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32. Restarting pythonwin.exe gave the same error msg. I scanned pywintypes.py for workaround ideas, and copied pywintypes23.dll to C:\WINDOWS. Now pythonwin starts up without error (shows the version & copyright msg and the >>> interpreter prompt). This is OK as a workaround. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Mark Hammond (mhammond) Date: 2004-04-29 09:34 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=14198 There have been a couple of reports like this on Win9x, with the same fix. Apparently the system32 directory is not on the path. It sounds like we are trying to copy to "system32" when we should just be copying to "windows" on that platform. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Peter Finlayson (frnknstn) Date: 2004-03-30 23:37 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1009500 I had a similar problem, also with Python v2.3 and pywin32 build 200, but under Win98SE. For me, the pywintypes23.dll was installed to the c:\windows\system directory. I received the same error window. I resolved the problem by adding C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM to my path in AUTOEXEC.BAT. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=551954&aid=917702&group_id=78018 |

Is this a known problem with these versions? If so, is there a set of versions that is known to work? Thanks, Bryan ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Mark Hammond (mhammond) Date: 2004-04-25 17:53 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=14198 Is this still a problem? If so, please reset the status of the bug to open, and let me know what the result of "pythoncom._GetInterfaceCount()" and "pythoncom._GetGatewayCount()" is. If either of these are non-zero, then either your app still has a reference to the COM object (which would explain the problem), or we have a leak in win32com (which would also explain it). I'll need to see a stand-alone example using only win32com before I will be able to assume it is a win32com bug (we do a fair bit of leak checking in our test suite) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=551954&aid=789222&group_id=78018 |

Charney (rcharney) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Can't configuring the tools menu bar Initial Comment: I usually run PythonWin with the debugger tool bar present. However, there does not seem to be any way of enabling it when PythonWin is loaded. (I.e., the View | Toolbars | Debugging can not be selected by default.) Somewhat related is an inconsistency in the documentation that is embedded in the default.cfg file. It says that I can define my own .cfg file and using the Tools | Options | Editor set PythonWin to start with my configuration file. There is no place that I can set the startup configuration file in the Editor page. That said, the product is terrific! Thanks. Reg.
