Initial Comment:
If a Python application uses adodbapi and is compiled into an exe using Py2exe, that app will fail on importing as soon as it is executed because of the following line:

version = __doc__.split('-',2)[0] #v2.1 Cole

It appears as though __doc__ is None if being used within a compiled python app (exe).  This could be fixed if the version was simply set to a string... ex: version = 'adodbapi 2.x.x'.  There may be other ways of fixing this but I believe this would be the easiest.
