I've been playing this game some after seeing it on Youtube. It is quick and easy as it claimed. While this game is here is in Pysol, the Pysol version is more restrictive and less winnable. Here, unusable cards are placed in the wastepile indiscriminately. In the version from Youtube from which I learned, the sixes are put in a separate wastepile to be used when needed. While chances of winning are somewhat low, I've won several games under this rule set. Is it possible to apply the wastepile for...

Thanks for the explanations. I do tend to use a large value for card overlap which I can indeed reduce a bit. This can still be changed without creating a new deck as Joe R. explained in this post: https://sourceforge.net/p/pysolfc/discussion/503709/thread/8899d2f2a5/ But I still like the idea of having variants of the same cardset with different Y-overlap as that might be easier to change in game than manually adjusting the value. So thanks for explaining how to do that, and thanks for the card...

  • grevex grevex posted a comment on discussion Help

Hi Chloe If you use one of the earlier cardsets in my post, you will notice that the card overlaps are half that of the cardset you are using in the above screenshot. They also have pips in the corners to make them easier to identify the cards easier. In the config.txt file in the cardset, line 4, where the value is '40' , this can be changed to '20' if you want to use it with half the overlay for later cardsets. This has to be done before the cardset is first used as once loaded it is permanent....

Thanks for you answer. Shring face-down cards is indeed useful. Compact long stacks does not change anything visually. Not to complain but I want to mention, since you talked about rarity, that for me, in wasp, this problem is far frome rare. EDIT to correct that compact long stacks does not in fact seem to do nothing, but does very little. In my current game it makes one more card visible when there are 6 more cards that are still invisible below that.

Each game has a semi-fixed size. It adapts to the size of the cardset (and the screen, if auto-scaling is enabled), but it should, under most circumstances, be enough to fit entire stacks. Though some games can, albeit rarely, create longer stacks. While we currently can't fully prevent this, there are a couple display options in Options/Card View that might help if you enable them: * Shrink face-down cards greatly reduces the Y offset for face-down cards, as they're hidden, and you don't need to...

Hi, thanks again for all the great games. The attachment shows a game of Wasp. There's a long stack of cards and the bottom is not visible. There is a scroll bar on my window but it's at the lowest it will go. There's a card of which I can only see the very top, and another card below that that I can't see at all (I can see them if I click and drag on any card in the pile as if to move it and the cards below it). Is there a way to make the scrollbar go all the way to the bottom of the stack. I know...

I have a problem that depending on the cardset I use, some of the cards are not easy to read when they are stacked on top of one another, see screenshot (this is Yukon if that's relevant). Being over the limit does not break PySol - it just cuts off everything at the end of the name that's over the limit. However, having two cardsets with identical names does break PySol. So kind of a perfect storm. In general, I do not add games without permission from the inventor or a representative. If it's in another open source app, I can use that license. But if not, I'll add games that are super widespread or notable, as this would suggest the inventor doesn't care. If you can get permission,...

You've somehow triggered an obscure edge case. Cardset names are limited to 30 characters. Cardsets with a name over 30 characters long are truncated so PySol only uses the first 30 characters. Both of those cardsets have 35 characters in their name, so only the first 30 are used. Since only the last character of the two cardset names is different, the cardset names that are actually used are identical. PySol cannot handle duplicate cardset names and crashes. I have no idea why the 30 character limit...

Found it! The Pan book of Card Games by Hubert Philips has it on page 314 under the name "Les Huits' (the Eights)". So just like Six By Six, but with two decks, and eight piles of eight cards. Something like that should be trivial to add on the code side. I could look into it a bit, though I might need to do some research to confirm the name. Yeah, there have been some issues reported with the recent Mac packages. Unfortunately, as I don't have a Mac test environment, there's nothing I can really do about it at the moment.

This is like Six by Six but uses two packs and an initial 8x8 layout. The deal to the first column is the same. The rules and name come from a French book of card games that belonged to my parents, which I no longer have. We called it 'Eights' but that name is sometimes given to a different patience. Six by Six can often get blocked if a low card comes down the left-hand column. Eights is rarely blocked in the same way. It can have a huge pile on the left-hand column and still come out. It can come...

  • Joe R. Joe R. posted a comment on discussion Open Discussion

Upon further review, it looks like the layout "Wasp" uses matches "Scorpion II", with "Scorpion II" matching a game from Pretty Good Solitaire (though that app does not have a version of "Wasp"). I'm trying to get away from making new games that are extremely minor modifications of existing ones, but in this case, I think it deserves an update - wouldn't be the first time some of the previous games were a bit inconsistent.

  • Nanami Kamimura Nanami Kamimura posted a comment on discussion Open Discussion

If that's the case, can a "Wasp II," which uses the Scorpion starting layout, suffice? Or is there a way to modify Wasp thru the Solitaire Wizard? Not that I'm complaining about the current Wasp. I seems easier compared to using the Scorpion layout.

  • Joe R. Joe R. posted a comment on discussion Open Discussion

This is the way PySol's version of Wasp always was, since it was added in the original PySol, back in 2000. This was long before I was involved in the project, so I can't speak as to my predecessor's reasoning.

I've noticed this from the first time playing Wasp, but why is there only nine cards faced down as shown in the attached image? Is it already like this from Pysol's beginnings?
