Hey, Brian! Please do send your PythonCrashLog -- are you sure it was a bus error and not a segmentation fault? Aargghhh!!! As much as I hate to do it, I'm rebuilding everything with debugging symbols right now (takes a *LONG* time to build qt on my mac-mini) -- Does anyone on the list know the ins and outs of debugging a dylib vs. a static lib on OS X? Either way, I wanna get this running again -- PyQt is some of the most fun I've had programming in years! From the CrashLog messages I gather that an attempt is being made to access memory illegally, or to access an illegitimate address. It seems to happen when a eric is repainting itself after being partially hidden by a dialog (but not every dialog). Has anybody tried static libraries instead of dylibs? (I've tried non-threaded builds already) -Michael On Mar 24, 2005, at 9:48 PM, Brian Morton wrote: > Hi, > > I am planning on installing the updated packages this evening, but in > the meantime I've been running Eric 3.6.2 from the terminal. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Look for libqscintilla.5.dylib in /Developer/qt/lib and symlink it to /usr/lib--that is the setup with the new build and it has reduced some crashes that I expereinced with Eric 3.6.2 in the older build. Hi, Kevin! Well, with either your build or mine -- eric crashes fairly reliably if you create a new file and then try to save it. I don't know if getting those libraries put in the right place will fix the problem -- I suspect it is worse than it appears... You see, if I start up X11 and ssh to my Linux box at work and start eric3 on that machine -- eric3 will crash, producing errors in my CrashLog similar to the ones that appear when using the OS X build. It seems almost as if eric, or possibly qscintilla is doing something illegal that Linux tolerates and OS X doesn't. Dunno... The CrashLogs, in case you're interested contain: (Eric on Mac): Command: Python Path: /Applications/Eric3.app/Contents/MacOS/Python Version: ??? (???) PID: 379 Thread: 0 Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001) Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0xffffffff (eric3 via X11): Command: Xquartz Path: /usr/X11R6/bin/Xquartz Version: 1.0.1 (???) PID: 1816 Thread: 1 Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001) Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0xd4abc86c Maybe this weekend I'll get around to poking at it with the quartz debugger... -Michael On Mar 23, 2005, at 10:23 PM, Kevin Walzer wrote: > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- > Hash: SHA1 > > Michael, > > Hmmmm. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 We have released a new binary installer of PyQt-Mac, PyQt-Mac-03-2005, which packages PyQt for Mac OS X. This installer updates all components of PyQt to the latest versions: PyQt 3.14.1, Sip 4.2.1, QScintilla 1.5.1, Qt 3.3.4, and Eric 3 (PyQt IDE) 3.6.2 This version differs from previous releases of PyQt-Mac by handling all installation details, no longer requiring the user to run additional installer scripts. The result is a significantly smaller installer package (60 MB) and final installation (250 MB). Based on user requests, we have also added instructions on how to build PyQt on Mac OS X to the "ReadMe" documentation; this material is also included on the web page for PyQt-Mac. Hi, Paul! If you look a little further down into the file generated by pyuic, I suspect you'll find a line that begins with: def init(self): ...which is where those entries you entered into ui.h wind up when pyuic is finished doing its work. If you want to get code into MyDocWindow.__init__(), you need to enter it into the Comment field of designer's Form Settings dialog (http://www.river-bank.demon.co.uk/docs/pyqt/PyQt.html#AEN85). For instance, an entry in the Comments field like: Python: print "I'm inited!" Hope this helps! -Michael On Mar 18, 2005, at 8:43 AM, Paul Agapow wrote: > > An almost certainly basic problem (as I am just starting on PyQt): > > I'm using designer and pyuic to create my interface. An almost certainly basic problem (as I am just starting on PyQt): I'm using designer and pyuic to create my interface. My main window class needs some initialization, so I wrote these into the ui.h file in the approved manner: void MyDocWindow::init() { print "I'm inited!" } void MyDocWindow::destroy() { print "I'm destroyed!" } But, pyuic doesn't put the included code into the MyDocWindow.__init__() function in the generated file. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Brian, Thanks for testing Eric3. It seems the problem is with my system, rather than with Eric3. Have you ever encountered a problem like the one I've encountered--that a Python script couldn't see another module in its directory? The problem really baffles me, and makes me wonder if my Python installation isn't borked in some way. I can certainly build a verison of Eric with the clickable icon--it's very easy to do--but I may not be able to test it. I'll do some more research and see what I can find out. If anyone else has any perspective or similar problems (or successes), please let me kno= w. Hi Kevin, Thanks again for being our point man for PyQt and for Eric3. I =20 appreciate your efforts. I followed your directions and installed Eric3 (not the snapshot =20 version, the 3.6.2 version on Sourceforge). After compiling, I used =20 ./eric3 in the original directory and Eric opened up with a new splash =20= screen and seems to work. I've opened one document and I can edit and =20= save it. I have not really stress tested it, but all seems well. I did not download any other files so I assume it is using your =20 original installation of PyQt to compile it. I have not looked for a =20 nice double clickable icon either, but using the terminal to start it =20= does not seem to much of a hard ship. I did not see any errors. I am using 10.3.8 on an ibook with your binary installation of PyQt. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to download the latest version of Eric3 (3.6.2), install it from the command line (sudo python install.py), and see if you are getting the same results I'm getting. The Eric developer doesn't really understand what's going on. The Eric webpage is http://www.die-offenbachs.de/detlev/eric3.html You will see in my attached message that I'm seeing this error in the snapshot build, but the current stable version has also given me the same error. If you do get similar results to me (see attached message), would you also be able to take a look at the code he references and see if there's anything we can do to tweak it? I'm not expert enough to do this with a program as large as Eric. I'm working on a new build of PyQt-Mac with the latest version of everything (Qt 3.3.4, PyQt 3.14.1, Sip 4.2.1, QScintilla 1.5.1). After some hiccups, everything built and installed okay. However, there seem to be some differences between the older version of PyQt that I shipped before and this one, because the older version of Eric is now broken. The new version gives different errors, as noted, which I think are unrelated to the changes in PyQt. Until I can get Eric running with the new bits (since Eric3 is the main reason for my interest in PyQt), I'm going to hold off on releasing it, unless the list feels I should go ahead. Thanks for the quick reply, and also for your efforts to package this all together. I'm interested in QT4 also because they claim the windows version will be GPLed. For the time being I'll continue to play with Eric on Mac, because it's such a great IDE. Maybe I'll try my hand at a build, and see if can can trade speed for the occasional crash. tim > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- > Hash: SHA1 > > I think it's safe to say that PyQt on the Mac is a bit fragile. > [Pyqt-mac-list] qt/mac and eric3 performance My 1.25 GHz G4 (a mac mini) with 512 mb ram seems to work just fine with Eric3 and Qt designer. I've built quite a large project with it... The version of Eric3 in pyqt-mac isn't quite as pretty as the one I have on my Linux box at work -- but it isn't painfully slow either. BUT.... I sure would like pyqwt and pyqwt3d!!!! -Michael |
