I'm seeing frequent segfaults across a group of servers in the same datacenter running ptpd2.3.1 on CentOS 6 (various kernel versions). The error message from /var/log/messages is:

    Jul 27 14:59:06 myserver kernel: ptpd2[9325]: segfault at 7fb4e68b4000 ip 00000031fbc898fe sp 00007fff58761fc8 error 4 in libc-2.12.so[31fbc00000+18a000]

Nothing in the ptpd logs, no funky stuff in the stats, the service just dies. We run the same builds in many other datacenters and don't see this issue, it's just occurring in one (and of course we don't control the grandmaster in this particular datacenter). The issue is happening to about a dozen servers, and they all hit at pretty much the same time, though our packet captures have not detected any malformed packets from the grandmaster.

Anyone seen this before or have ideas what might be causing this? It seems specific to ptpd2.3.1, as I've got a few older CentOS 5 servers running 2.3.0 that don't fall victim to the issue.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I believe one of your colleagues has contacted me about this, and I have a core dump. Let me have a look.

    Thanks,

Was there a fix for this? I'm seeing the same issue on CentOS 6.8 with ptpd2 version 2.3.1

    Sep 7 09:51:52 server kernel: ptpd2[171046]: segfault at 7f1cfd2c3000 ip 00000039f1489af7 sp 00007fff1e7f9148 error 4 in libc-2.12.so[39f1400000+18a000]

    Thanks
