You'll need to use passive-ftp, or try tunneling an entire vpn over to your inside machine, it can be done, but it's not recomendable. Gaim and other messenger clients work perfectly over http(s) proxies or socks so that shouldn't be a problem. Either way... it's not really the terrain for proxytunnel, it can just open 1 connection to 1 port (at a time) on the outside.
