I've begun the task of improving ProMP3. Ideas for improvement have been slow to come in, and time to address them even shorter. Some features slated to be included: -Full integration with Audio::Daemon::MPG123 (a project I have yet to finish), -editing of categories and how things are stored, -a tiny java (applet?) to sit on your desktop to control the central playlist.
Audio::Daemon::MPG123 is a daemon written to wrap around Audio::Play::MPG123, making mpg123 controllable through UDP (perhaps other methods later). I couldn't find a wheel nice enough to support the features needed by promp3, so I decided to reinvent the wheel. Using the new mpg123 Daemon will add some great features like: a true random playlist (xmms random really stinks), Real time status monitoring, No Need for an X display, ability to have other clients (non-perl or web), full player status (now I can display if random or repeat is on).... read more
Finally. It's good enough to call a beta. I think the software is ready to be fully released, but the install process is still in an alpha state, so a compromise is a beta release. If you have any problems installing it, check the forums, mailing list, or send me an email!
Finally. It's ready enough to be called beta. But the only thing beta about it is the documentation. It's been running fine in two installations I've done, but I've done them. I don't know how anyone else will do working with it. Please contact me if you'd like to try it out! I'll probably have the tarball up here within a week either way!
