ProjectLibre fails to launch on macOS 15 (Sequoia) with “Bad CPU type in executable”
Great to hear it works for you! We have asked our community devleopers to assist. If any are reading this please contact us. This is a priority and need community developer assistance
Yes, 1.9.3 works fine, is there any possiblilities for 1.9.8 to work fine with Chinese UI?
You need to go to Settings and Privacy/Security and allow it to install... it is a common issue with Apple not allowing install from anything not coming from an AppStore download... it will work. We do recommend the 1.9.3 version for issues with the new version. It is usually seen on older macOS with older chips but have a few issues... the workaround solution is to go to Files (here in menu) and download 1.9.3 .
There is a release here 1.9.3 that will work fine for you. Go to Files and download that ...
You can go to Files in this site and download 1.9.3. It will run on the older Macs.
I too would love to have a newer version on x86 Mac. I will need to switch to using something else because of the lack of support for older Macs.
I am not a smart computer guy, so this might be bad practice. I did as you suggested, downloaded and installed the 1.9.3.deb. sudo apt install ~/Downloads/projectlibre_1.9.3-1.deb But ran into issues preventing me from accessing the right-click menu in the worksheet section (As others have.) - apparently caused by the program using the system default java version, in my case openjdk-17, when it needs no later than version 11. I did not find any fixes not requiring me to change the system default...
Resource allocation in fixed work tasks broken
I got a similar behavior but, the program didn't crash. However, it took 10 - 30 seconds for the Save as dialog to open up the first time after program start. After the first time, the dialog opened up right away. The same behavior was observed when selecting Open project directly after program start.
Can't save projects at all
Oh goodness I never thought to use the PgDown key to effectively "scroll down". Thank you. And yes, I can see the value, if you have many columns, you may prefer to scroll horizontally vs vertically.
It is actually a difference of opinion as the non-Gantt views scroll vertically... there are people who want the Gantt chart to scroll to the right to see tasks.... you can always cntrl down or drag the bar down on the far right of the screen..... some people prefer the current method but there is certainly feedback other people would prefer verticle.
I noticed a post from 2017 and this issue is still percolating. Hey, I'm in my 70s, I'll politely ask that, before I croak, i can use the mouse scroll wheel to navigate up and down in the Gantt view. Thank you. OR, can someone offer a reason it works the way it does.
I have thoroughly checked the PDF modification. However, I use Korean. Korean text displays correctly on the screen. But when I output it as a PDF, only the Korean text appears garbled. Can this be resolved?
Vertical Scrolling from right most side of screen
Error exporting PDF
Thank you for the note.... that is complex code but should work. We will take a look at it and having rewritten the code in the Cloud AI version will see if we can back fix on the desktop.
Hello ProjectLibre Community, I am writing to report a critical and fundamental bug in how ProjectLibre calculates the Work for a task when using resources with non-standard calendars. The core of the issue is that ProjectLibre incorrectly calculates the total Work based on the project's default calendar and fails to update this value after a resource with a custom calendar is assigned. This makes planning with resources on different work schedules unreliable and requires manual correction, defeating...
UI Bugs
Application freeze
Mouse wheel does not scroll on Gantt (improvement)
Keed display grid prefrence activated (improvement)
That is a great suggestion... we are actively looking for community development to replace our current spreadsheet. It is a moderate sized effort but will be worth it.... Development community, this is a top priority. We need drag/drop and much more features like this suggestion in the spreadsheet.
auto-adjustment of columns (feature)
Missing font library from install package. If you run from command line it shows the error. I used homebrew to remedy the issue: 'brew install harfbuzz'
I was having a similar issue, it was because I had to install Java on my Mac to open the Project Libre Application...

ProjectLibre's new release only runs on the new macOS with M silicon. It does not run with the x86 older chips. Apple has discontinued support as well. If you need to run on an older Mac then go to Files here and download version 1.9.3. If you are on the M chip like the above messages... check if you have virus protection conflict or a network issue allowing.... you still do need to to to Security / Preferences and Allow the installation as it is downloaded from Sourceforge not their app store
That is odd.... we litterally have many thousands of successful installations on macOS with M silicon. There are multiple messages here... wondering if you have gone to Systems Preferences and allowed it to install.... or do you have virus software/network software causing a conflict?

Projectlibre does not run on newest Java version
Same here. Literally does nothing. Which is frustrating because i was updating with the hopes that it worked better on M series chips. But now I cant use it it all.
I am able to download ProjectLibre version 1.9.8, but unable to start the program in Mac OS Sequoia 15.5. After giving permits to start installation, the Project Libre logo appears in the Dock bar, but it disappears after 1-2 seconds.
I am able to download ProjectLibre version 1.9.8 to Mac OS Sequoia v15.4.1. However I cannot get the program to start
Many thanks! The recommended workaround with the .tar.gz instead of .deb works on debian 12 bookworm stable (and derivates). Single issue left was a java version mismatch. I had openjdk-17-jre installed, which still was not enough. Not sure how java 11 which you had stated should have worked then: $ java -jar projectlibre.jar Error: LinkageError occurred while loading main class com.projectlibre1.main.Main java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: com/projectlibre1/main/Main has been compiled by a...
I would suggest for now downloading the version 1.9.3 .deb You can find it in the Files folder here. The other workaround if you do want 1.9.8 : Download the tar.gz version of ProjectLibre instead of the .deb. Manually extract and run the executable from the terminal using java -jar. Ensure you have Java 11+ installed (openjdk-11-jre works well on Debian Bookworm).
Bug: There are no packages libjpeg-turbo8, libasound2t64 and libglib2.0-0t64 in debian stable.
TBD but good question... we are in touch with Apple who are heavy users internally. They had actually helped drive some of the development focus on 1.9.8. Here is a note on their focus.... Apple's stance on x86 chips for their Mac computers is clear: they are no longer the future. Apple has completed its transition to its own ARM-based "Apple Silicon" chips across its entire Mac lineup. Here's a breakdown of Apple's position and the timeline: Completed Transition: Apple transition from Intel x86...
Will it ever be made to run on the x86 chips? We are running on MageiaLinux9, but on v.1.9.3. It would be nice to keep up to upgrades. Hardware: 4 × Intel® Core™ i5-4590 CPU @ 3.30GHz; 156GiB RAM; MageiaLinux9; Plasma (KDE) v.5.27.10
The new release runs on Linux (.deb and .rpm) Windows and macOS Silicon chips. The new 1.9.8 only runs on Apple silicon not the x86 chips. You can go to Sourceforge and download 1.9.3 and it will run on the older x86 chips
has this been resolved ? I'm on Ventura and no luck... :(
Cannot start version Project Libre 1.9.8 on Mac Sequoia 15.5.1
Windows install: Windows Defender now accepts .msi
Windows install: need to over-ride Windows Defender to download .msi
The official ProjectLibre .dmg installer for macOS ships all of its native dependencies (including HarfBuzz) inside the app bundle. So if you install from the .dmg and you don’t already have HarfBuzz on your system, the installer will still complete successfully and you won’t need to brew install harfbuzz. The standalone DMG is fully self-contained.
Just wondering, since ProjectLibre 1.9.8 for macOS looks for the file '/opt/homebrew/opt/harfbuzz/lib/libharfbuzz.0.dylib', does that mean that ProjectLibre now requires 'harfbuzz' to be installed via homebrew?
Under macOS 15.4.1, when ProjectLibre 1.9.8 is started by launching /Programs/ProjectLibre.app, the terminal output starts with Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /Applications/ProjectLibre.app/Contents/runtime/Contents/Home/lib/libfontmanager.dylib: dlopen(/Applications/ProjectLibre.app/Contents/runtime/Contents/Home/lib/libfontmanager.dylib, 0x0001): Library not loaded: /opt/homebrew/opt/harfbuzz/lib/libharfbuzz.0.dylib Referenced from: <596330EB-90B5-3223-93CA-8780151508A4>...
Yes, you should either run 1.9.3 or follow the instructions below to run the .jar file. ProjectLibre's team spent a lot of time preparing Linux (.deb and .rpm) and Windows (.msi) and macOS (.dmg). Just a note the dmg is for Apple Silicon and won’t work for x86. Run 1.9.3 or follow the instructions below if you are using an older Mac. When there are compatibility problems, customers can still install Java 21, download the jar and double click on it.
Program does not launch under MacOS 15.3.2
ProjectLibre 1.9.8
Just a note for the Macs running on x86, the dmg is for Apple Silicon and won’t work for x86. When there are compatibility problems, users can still install Java 21, download the jar and double click on it.
Sorry, I forgot to ask which is the oldest macOS version supported by the dmg executable. Thanks.
Ok. I see. Thank you. However, using any Java version under 24 is not feasible for me at the moment.
Java 24 is a short-term release that has experimental features being evaluated. You should run on Java 21 We advise the user to run ProjectLibre 1.9.8 on Java 21. It was built and tested against that specific version, and compatibility issues with newer, short-term releases like Java 24 are to be expected. **** Java 24 includes 24 experimental, incubator, preview, and permanent features. According to the release notes, these include noteworthy changes impacting the building, running, and profiling...

That is strange... is there is it possible the Project Start date is after the date you are trying to set as a Must Start On? Check the details in your Project dialog box..... also we released a major update in 1.9.8 today. You should download and try. Please note on installation you need to accept ! It is an odd installation...

It is in final testing... the performance benefits are incredible! We are very happy internally testing and are just making sure to QA on Linux. ProjectLibre has sizable usage on macOS , Windows and Linux so important
How can we get version 1.9.8?
thx man
I had the same problem, thaks your advice worket !! =)
Hello, as a workaround (if you are a sudoer): 1)install jre11 2)sudoedit /usr/bin/projectlibre : #at the beginning of the file after #!/ ... sudo rm /usr/bin/java sudo ln -s /usr/lib/jvm/java-11-openjdk/bin/java /usr/bin/java #at the end of the file sudo rm /usr/bin/java sudo ln -s /usr/lib/jvm/default-runtime/bin/java /usr/bin/java 3)enjoy
Seems like it may be an old Java? [bnewell@fatman bin]$ java -showversion openjdk version "1.8.0_442" OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_442-b06) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.442-b06, mixed mode) From the package manager I see I have jre8 installed. That would explain everything but I don't know why I would have such an old version when many newer versions are available. However I will not rush to update! Apologies for my original post not being helpful.
Which java are you running, Bob? I'm running 17, it looks like David is running 11. This error is not a bug in the code, but due to a change in Java policy. Java 7 may have broken projectLibre and Java 9 and greater should definitely break it. ChatGPT said: It looks like you're trying to instantiate a class from Groovy code and are encountering an issue with ** the use of newInstance(), which is deprecated.** In Java (and Groovy), you should use groovyClass.getDeclaredConstructor().newInstance()...
Bob, I'm using Manjaro and I've just installed the 1.9.3-1 AUR version : still not able to right click on a cell and having a menu. Look at my first message in 2022. By the way this script (I named it javaRun.sh) was the way I use to run ProjectLibre: # Ce script permet d'exécuter une application Java avec une ancienne version de Java if [ $# -lt 2 ]; then echo "Usage: ./javaRun.sh <java_version> <command>" echo "Exemple: ./javaRun.sh java-11-openjdk projectlibre" exit 1 fi export PATH="/usr/lib/jvm/$1/bin/:$PATH"...

Hmm. I downloaded the version just now from the Arch Linux AUR repository and everything seems to work fine.
Right click doesn't works with ProjectLibre 1.9.3
YES! Just got right click and the task bar menu (Indent, Outdent, InsertTask, Delete, Copy, Cut, Paste, Expand, Collapse) working on projectlibre_1.9.3-1.deb running JRE17 on my Debian 12 system! I am not a real programmer*, so this may not be right, but it works for me and hopefully someone who knows what they are doing can correctly modify the code. After a fresh install of the latest Debian release, all my attempts to install projectLibre resulted in the same error the OP reported: NullPointerException:...
This REALLY needs to be updated. I've got a few projects with 200+ tasks in them, using the scroll bar on the right lacks the resolution needed. You can only use it to get to a rough area, then have to arrow key up and down to find what you are looking for. The gantt chart view left right scroll feature is NICE to have, but if you're managing a project, you NEED to be able to see/work on the tasks. The gantt view is the last step, I don't know why or how anyone uses this as the main focus to get...
