Hi Frank,

so I think you answered that "context aware widgets" are the way to go, though I'm not entirely sure that naming the ExtJS Class exactly as the widget is a good way to go. Better to have a field extjs_class with the widget, which should default to the widget_name, but not be bound to it (this way, if we have e.g. 3 different Classes implementing a Category Drop Down, the Administrator could choose which one to use without the need to do some coding). 

Additionally, OpenACS and ]project-open[ sometimes has this magic happening where by naming something you create a certain behavior which I don't envision is developer friendly.
