Hi! I'm back from vacation again (Greenland is beautifuy!) and just had a first look at the status of L10n server's /acs-lang/admin/ page... There is quite some advance, and 6 languages seem to be in a status already suitable for relase (en, de, es, fr, it, nl). Contratulations! Klaus told me there were some new languages to add to the Wiki. I've finally added all languages that we might ever support... However, I didn't check the "Languages" checkbox in the Wiki edit-page of the "incomplete" languages. So these languages don't appear in the content tree of the Wiki at the moment. Language Status I've just checked the status of the languages at the localization server. Could you please confirm if I'm right? ar_LB Arabic (LB) 593 Incomplete - Somebody is working on this one? bg_BG Bulgarian (BG) 0 New - I've enabled the language in the L10n server. Mykola Pohorilets offered help on this. ca_ES Catalan (ES) 597 New - Michael, you offered to provide this translation, is that right? Or should we cancel it? I've created a Wiki page and enabled the language in the L10n server. zh_CN Chinese (CN) 1.049 Incomplete - This looks like somebody is seriously working on it? nl_NL Dutch (NL) 5.004 Supported - This is one of the most completely translated language, congrats! en_US English (US) 5.037 Supported - Well, that's ]po[... fr_FR French (FR) 4.641 Supported - Looking very complete! de_DE German (DE) 4.389 Supported - Looking good... it_IT Italian (IT) 5.032 Supported - This _is_ the most complete translation, congrats! ja_JP Japanese (JP) 1.147 Incomplete(?) - We are still looking for a language lead, right? pt_BR Portuguese (BR) 1.014 Incomplete(?) - Is this OpenACS strings or is it real ]po[ translations? ru_RU Russian (RU) 784 Incomplete - Still requires some work, is that right? es_ES Spanish (ES) 3.949 Supported - There are about ~1.000 strings remaining. Maybe these are not very important? tr_TR Turkish (TR) 1.366 Incomplete(?) - Still requires some work, is that right? Hints for the "Interactive Translation Mode" There is one important hint that allows you to greatly speed up translations in the "interactive translation mode" (/acs-lang/admin -> Translation Mode = "on"): If you are on a page with multiple untranslated strings, please do a Ctrl-Click on the red-"@" and the yellow-"*" links. This way, a number (5-20) of tabs open up in the browser. Then you can go one-by-one through the tabs, enter the translation and submit. Then you can press Ctrl-W (closes the current tabl) directly after pressing "submit translation". This way, the browser doesn't loose time loading the page again. The system will still update the string. Working this way, the speed of the server really doesn't matter anymore. At least this is my experience from performing the initial translation into German... Support for "Offline Translation" Michael and other have asked for support for "offline" translations. Today I've exported all translations from the database into ]po[ "catalog" files. I have moved these collected strings for all languages in http://l10n.project-open.net/intranet-filestorage/ You can download them from there. After translating them offline, you can upload your results into the folder Files_for_reimport_to_PO (I assume LoCo Michael has created them). Then please notify the localization-list, so that somebody of us can import them into the database. Delay of V3.4 until October 2009 Did you see that we have delayed the "official" release of V3.4 until end of October (1 month)? We had to do this because of delays with the Windows installer and with some PR material. I hope this will also provide you with some additional time for L10n. First Draft of Press Kit I've uploaded the first thee files of the future Press-Kit in http://l10n.project-open.net/intranet-filestorage/ -> Press-Kit.en, just to provide you with a first idea. At the end of this month the following files will be there: - V3.4-Company-Fact-Sheet.090909.odt Some facts about ]po[ - V3.4-Consulting.090916.odt Processes of ]po[ for Consulting Companies - V3.4-Translation.090916.odt Processes of ]po[ for Translation Companies - V3.4-ITSM.090916.odt Processes of ]po[ for IT Services Organizations - V3.4-ERP-vs-PSA.090724.odt A background article explaining the differences and similarities between an ERP system and a PSA. - V3.4-Press-Release.Open-Source.odt Press release suitable for open-source managzines - V3.4-Press-Release.Consulting.odt Press release for Consulting Sector - V3.4-Press-Release.Translation.odt Press release for Translation Sector - V3.4-Press-Release.ITSM.odt Press release for IT Services Management Sector - V3.4-Press-Release.Generic.odt Press release (generic, without a specific sector) Any feedback is highly welcome.
