One student tells me that, even though his Personal Dashboard is set up with the "Generic" standard categories, (when open for a long time) the Dashboard reverts to "PSP Numbers" in the Defect Dialog box. I see, e.g,, Type 10s in his log.
He is good student, so I tend to believe his actually experiencing this.

Is the student in a PSP or TSPi class? in other words, is this behavior occurring on a task within a team project?
This student is working on a Team Project. The databackup can be found at: http://zorak.monmouth.edu/~rfrederi/pdash-Studenta.zip

Data Backup
One interesting point to note: the "Generic" standard categories that you describe ARE numeric (e.g. 10, 20, 30). If you wish to use symbolic names, you should not choose the "Generic" standard. Instead, you should choose "PSP - text."
In the data backup you referenced, it appears that the student HAS configured "PSP - text" as the default defect type standard. That is good. However, it contradicts the statement originally made in this defect report concerning the use of the "Generic" standard.
If the student has used the "Generic" standard at any point in the past, that would explain the presence of numeric defect types in the defect log. In that case, having subsequently selected "PSP - text" as the default should resolve the problem.
If the original statement about the use of the "Generic" type was in error, and the student has been using "PSP - text" all along, please let me know.
