MSIE 6 - believe this has to do with the javascript resizing of
the background image to fit the available client-height.
Thought I had it working, but was wrong. will look into it.
Moz - I'm not sure exactly what you mean by cell alignments.
Perhaps you could illustrate with a screenshot?
Have lowered priority of the task; more important is to get
the content for the site up; IMO display issues are really
secondary at this point.

the problem arises because I'm using transitional XHTML
(sf.net's news includes are not compliant, hence transitional),
and have specified the doctype explicitly, causing IE6 to go
into 'standards' mode. Plugged the main page, if this works, I'll
fix it for all pages.
