RPMs only... removed kernel module and all pptp components. Reinstalled
all components per instructions. Modprobe, etc went fine

tcpdump eth1 unrestricted.. I removed GRE traffic from other clients for
clarity, but there was none for this host.

no firewall in place, ipchains/tables off-line
