Hi all. I'm thinking of taking on some development of ppstats. As a user of it myself there are a few things I'd like to update, and make the changes available for others. However, whilst some work has been done on a rewrite (not by me - you can see it in CVS here), it's not complete and hasn't been worked on in quite a while. So, I'm interested to know a couple of things.
Firstly, is there demand for continued development of ppstats from its current users, or those who might start using it if it were improved? If so, apart from tidying up the code and fixing minor bugs, what features or improvements would you consider the most important?
Secondly, are there others who would be interested in doing some actual coding?
As far as my thoughts on changes go... I think whatever happens it needs to be sped up - this was happening in the version 8 rewrite that got started. The plan there was to store aggregate data in a SQL database. I don't think it need be that exactly, but something along these lines would have to be done. The other big thing for me would be tidying up the HTML output, as well as making it easier to do things like separate pages for "overall" and "today" say.

I have also done some changes to the last version available on CVS.
If you like you can see and download what I have made on http://www.intrepid.de/stats-all/

Ask or just mail me what you think of this. (The docs should be uptodate, and a link is at the bottom of the stats)
Bye

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you - shortly after my post I moved jobs and home. Internet access where I'm currently living has been a bit useless up to now too. I've now got some time to work on stuff, and the completion of RC5-64 has got me back into looking at a lot of the scripts on my team's proxy server.
I noticed you're using mysql in your modification. It should be easy to support both that and postgresql. Personally I'd like to see an option remain for processing without a full RDMS around. Some kind of summary files could be used instead.
I've had a couple of people contact me privately. Could anyone wanting to help doing actual coding please email me or post here and we'll get things moving.
Cheers
