I tried to create a poster from a greyscale jpg and the created pdf had weird repeating copies of the image over it and red and yellow artifacts. When I converted the original image to an rgb image and tried again it worked fine. Now I have a workaround it's fine, but I thought others might find this useful.

I had a similar problem. Greyscale jpegs didn't appear at all in the pdf document that was created at the end. As rgb images, they work fine.
The 1.9.5 preview version should have fixed that issue.
