This sounds reasonable, in particular if you think of import of such data
from vendor supplied lists. That's certainly feasable but a considerable
effort for research, localization (which country are you in?), etc.
POSper can e.g. already recognize barcodes for periodicals in Germany which
have a standardized EAN that holds the price.
We've implemented this on a project basis and that's what we can offer.

First thing I noticed when playing with the software from a retailers prospective is there is no way to add bottle deposit to an item, or create items that require another for purchase.  For example if i was to sell some one a 12 pack of soda I should have been able to program that this particular item comes with bottle deposit value 12.

This feature is already available. Please refer to the Wiki on the POSper
suuport site.
Find the link on the POSper Home page. You must register to the support
site.
Look for modifier functions and you'll find a lot of nice stuff.
It's even possible to scan one bottle and make it a crate by pressing a
defined button: scanning adds one bottle and deposit, the button multiplies
both by a defined fctor, say 20 and adds the crates deposit.

Hi there,

I've setup a Posper-V1.0-852 POS with Debian Squeeze.
The ticket printer is an epson TM-88II, connected to /dev/ttyS0, with a cash drawer on it.

The first ticket is fine, with papercut, but the cashdrawer doesn't open.
Printing a ticket again is not possible.

When I restart Posper, I get a

RXTX Warning:  Removing stale lock file. /var/lock/LC..ttyS0

and I can only print one ticket again, without an opening cashdrawer.

I've sent the opening code manually to the printer and the drawer opens,
so I believe that Posper oder RXTX are the troublemakers. :) 


I configured the printer under Devices as "Printer 1", driver "epson", mode "rxtx", port "/dev/ttyS0".
Use it as standart is checked.

At the Options menu is "ticket printing" checked.

The user is in the group dialout.

thank you for that tip. That works well.
After restarting I can print multiple tickets.

But opening the drawer does not work that way either.
I can now open it as "command driven" with the binary I told before.
But thats not the nice way.
Is it possible to open the drawer "automatically" with the epson driver?

This could be indeed a bug in the rxtx communication. We'll check this.

As a workaround please configure mode 'file' going to /dev/ttyS0.
Make sure the port is not blocked, i.e. remove the lock file (in /var/lock)
if any.

which solves the issue described in the original bug report and which also
provides the possibility to retrieve images through a URL from a cached web

running into problems:

It seems that

[posper-devel] MySQL 5.5 problems and solution

I tracked down the problems with posper and MySQL 5.5.

Database setup failed with the following error:

org.hibernate.exception.SQLGrammarException: could not load an entity: 
[org.posper.hibernate.Property#posper.version]
com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.MySQLSyntaxErrorException: Table 
'posperdb.posper_property' doesn't exist

In posper.log you could see:

DEBUG SchemaExport:377 - create table posper_cashregister (id 
varchar(255) not null, version integer not null, cashCarryForward double 
precision, cashDifference double precision, dateClose datetime, dateOpen 
datetime not null, host varchar(255) not null, serialNr integer, primary 
key (id)) type=InnoDB

WARN ConnectionTester:66 - Connection failed: You have an error in your 
SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server 
version for the right syntax to use near 'type=InnoDB' at line 1


The problem is that hibernate with posper uses 'type=InnoDB' in its 
create table queries. As 'type=InnoDB' has been deprecated for a while 
it was removed in favor of 'engine=InnoDB' in MySQL 5.5.

I was able to fix this by changing 'MySQLInnoDBDialect' to 
'MySQL5InnoDBDialect' in MySQLDialect.java.

After changing, the database setup succeeded and posper seems to run normal.

Can't test if changing the dialect to MySQL 5 causes problems with 
posper and MySQL 5.1 or 4, as I just have a 5.5 server.

If it doesn't cause problems, maybe it could be changed on the trunk.

Remembering, not so much.

I'm guessing this was the period of the initial port, and the comment
indicates that I was adding the methods called by
src/main/resources/net/adrianromero/templates/de/Printer.CloseCash.xml

So that the closed cash ticket report would work.


Looking at the commit in question I actually created the SalesLine class
there, though I don't know if that was porting/rewriting something from
tinapos.

As for the conditional... I can't even remember what subtotal vs total
mean for a single line. But my gut says that
taxAmounts[i][SUB_TOTAL] <= taxAmounts[i][TOTAL]
is only true if the tax was used in that line, so maybe this was trying
to avoid printing out taxes that weren't actually charged? Though in
that case I'd expect I'd check if they were equal to 0.


I did the commit at 9:30, only a 3 and a half hours after the previous
commit with a possible mean in between, it probably wasn't all that
tested.

Aaron, and ported shortly thereafter to 0.60 .. the log description was 
"fix PaymentsModel for closed cash ticket print".  If I had to guess I'd 
say that the intent was to prevent some obscure condition where a tax 
got added multiple times, but I'm not sure : hopefully Aaron is still 
listening in on the devel list :)

Do you know if SF "really for reals" deletes files such that even 
reverting to a prior revision is unable to see them?  If yes, then I'd 
rather leave them in your historic folder.

If checking old revisions can still see deleted files, then I'm thumbs 
up for immediately nuking any and all outdated stuff, because in an 
emergency they could be recovered...

available. Downloading 1021 and deleting my ~/posper* files enabled me to

Have you downloaded 1.0-1020 or 1.0-1021?
1020 was only online 1 day and had an install bug.
If you have 1.0-1021 please re-install, answer the setup password with the
string setup and 'load example data?' with yes.

If it still does not work please submit your posper.log and let us know
what database you're using.
