As for your original query: something closes a connection when paserve expects it to be open still. I'd begin investigating this bug by tracing at which stage of processing this happens (reading the request, trying to send out the answer), inspecting the request headers and looking for differences between refreshing-by-button and refreshing-by-ajax, checking whether turning off keep-alive sockets changes the behaviour, and general head-scratching. But, to be brutally honest, were I to do web development again these days, I'd check out Edi Weitz's Hunchentoot at <URL:http:// www.weitz.de/hunchentoot/> which seems to do most of what paserve does and is under active maintenance.
