I am trying to install Poptop on my red hat linux 7.3 server. I am using the install directions from this site and I have run into several problems. 1st I don't have /usr/src/<kernel version> directory. I have /lib/modules/<kernel version> so I am trying to substitute that directory in the instructions. Every make command that is written in the instructions does not work in the directories on my computer. If anybody has set this program up using red hat please help.

I got it working locally but I am having problems accessing it from outside the local network.(I used newest tarballs to get it going, thanks JJ). I have a DSL model with built in router. I open the ports on the router but do I also need to open them on the linux server? I am a newbie so I am not sure about these type of things. Thanks for the advice.

Which instructions are you using?
the ones for kernel 2.4 posted on this site.
It may be the tarball you are using is out of date. Get the latest kernelmod source and try that.

Besides port tcp/1723 you should also let protocol GRE (47) traffic through your firewall/router.
how can I let GRE(47) through?
