Developed definitions by Schölly and Aesculap: Shutter exposure time
Shutter speed or exposure time is the length of time when the imaging sensor is sensitive to light in order to capture an image.
Slower shutter speeds (exposing the medium for a longer period of time) produce greater exposures.
Automatic Shutter Control
The shutter speed is automatically calculated and adjusted to achieve an appropriate exposure of the imaging sensor.

Window Size: Defines region used on imager for calculating white balance. The used region can consist of one or several pixel groups and be arbitrary shape.

Gain Control: Mode of the multiparameter brigthness control of the video unit. For exmaple parameter like color temperature, brightness etc. are taken in to account.

Different Gain Control Modes: No Gain Control --> Britness is set via the LS by the user.
standard gain Control --> Camara control unit (CCU) set the ligth intensety via the captured immage. Communication between LS und CCU is nessesary.
Full automatic gain control --> CCU know the type of the LS and the opiticla caracteristrics via white balance. Ligth intensety will be set accordint to the actual live image ans these parameters. If there is a unknown LS the CCU will improve image brigthness by incrase of the image gain.

Different Gain Control Modes: Gain Control Off --> Brightness of the image is the result of the given light intensity.
Gain Control On (without light source access) --> CCU regulates brightness to provide an optimal image.
Gain Control On (with light source access)--> CCU regulates brightness to provide an optimal image. In this mode the CCU can influence the ligth intensety of the light source for providing an optimal image. This requires a communication between LS and CCU.
Full automatic gain control --> CCU knows the type of the LS and the opitical caracteristrics via white balance. Ligth intensety will be set according to the actual live image ans these parameters. If there is an unsupported LS the CCU will improve image brigthness by increase of the image gain.
