An HF SURGICAL EQUIPMENT SHALL describe the association between each VIRTUAL TERMINAL modeling the instrument and its actual ACTIVE OUTPUT TERMINAL using the PhysicalConnector of the VmdState of the VIRTUAL TERMINAL.

If an HF SURGICAL EQUIPMENT does not allow the configuration of an instrument independent from the actual ACTIVE OUTPUT TERMINAL, it SHALL provide a fixed PhysicalConnector of the VmdState for each affected VIRTUAL TERMINAL.

Note – For dynamically configurable VIRTUAL TERMINALs the PhysicalConnector can be empty when not association is currently available.

If a PhysicalConnector is assigned, regardless dynamically or fixed, an HF SURGICAL EQUIPMENT SHALL provide the PhysicalConnectorInfo/@Number for the VIRTUAL TERMINAL and at least one meaningful PhysicalConnectorInfo/Label for the VIRTUAL TERMINAL allowing OPERATOR to uniquely identify the ACTIVE OUTPUT TERMINAL.

Questions:

  • what if the device cannot recognize whether the instrument is plugged or not? (For devices "really" being instrument oriented: can these devices ensure that they can recognize whether the instrument is plugged or not?)

The requirements look good to me.

There are two scenarios: For Instruments that have an identification (include presettings) to the HF generator, it is known if the instrument is plugged or not.
For "standard" instruments this is not always given. Some HF generators allows an HF-output without connected Instrument.
As we are not able to have this information in any cases, the HF-output must be possible although it is not soure if the instrument is connected.

    [Meeting 21.01.2020]

R00xx - An HF SURGICAL EQUIPMENT SHALL use the PhysicalConnector of the VmdState of a VIRTUAL TERMINAL modeling an instrument to describe the association between the VIRTUAL TERMINAL and its actual ACTIVE OUTPUT TERMINAL whenever the VIRTUAL TERMINAL is associated to an ACTIVE OUTPUT TERMINAL.

Note 1 – From R00xx follows, if an HF SURGICAL EQUIPMENT does not allow the configuration of an instrument independent from the actual ACTIVE OUTPUT TERMINAL, it provides a static PhysicalConnector of the VmdState for each affected VIRTUAL TERMINAL.

R00xy - A PhysicalConnector describing the association between a VIRTUAL TERMINAL of an HF SURGICAL EQUIPMENT and an ACTIVE OUTPUT TERMINAL SHALL contain a unique PhysicalConnectorInfo/@Number and at least one PhysicalConnectorInfo/Label.

R00xz - The PhysicalConnectorInfo/Label of a PhysicalConnector describing the association between a VIRTUAL TERMINAL of an HF SURGICAL EQUIPMENT and an ACTIVE OUTPUT TERMINAL SHALL allow OPERATORs to uniquely identify the respective ACTIVE OUTPUT TERMINAL.
