What i want to do is decompress and decompile one of the rootdisks on the site, and compare the filesystem of that to the one i have made, to ensure that i have not completely screwed something up, or typed something wrong, because the disk i made doesn't work right, but i dont want to just use one from the site, i want to make mine like the one on the site.

I cant gurantee that this will work but I think you could just do
"dd if=/dev/fd0 of=~/rootdisk.gz" and then "gzip -d ~/rootdisk.gz"
Then mount the decompressed rootdisk using "mount -o loop rootdisk mountpoint" :)
And then how we can copy all exactly (with the symlinks, etc) as it is in the loopback file, to a directory?
YES
The commands
"dd if=/dev/fd0 of==~/rootdisk.gz" and then "gzip -d ~/rootdisk.gz"
work well. The only thing you need to do before is:
Get the file ch5-rootdisk.image.gz from
http://www.happy-monkey.net/pocket/diskette-images/
then
bash# dd if=ch5-rootdisk.image.gz of=/dev/fd0 bs=1k
then use the above commands
Hope this help.
