First I should say that my build system is 64 bit wheras the target system is 32 bit so I have been cross compiling all my work and as far as I can tell its all been done properly 'file' says that all the bins and libs are 32 bits so I dont think thats the problem.
I created the compressed boot disk in chapter 3 and on my system it works fine but the moment i put in the target system it works fine till it finished loading the compressed image it then says freeing kernel memory and then just stops and bash fails to execute. even though the console still accepts input.

Pentium1 100mhz
16mb ram
