Are there any plans to make pngcrush multithreaded? Or at least an option to spawn multiple instances of pngcrush when using pngcrush on a directory of images?
The -brute option of pngcrush is the ideal application scenario for taking advantage of a multi-core system. As it seems to be almost impossible to buy a new single-core server, desktop, or laptop system nowadays it would be really good to have multi-core support in pngcrush.

There's no such plan at the moment. It should be possible, though, because the trials are independent of each other.
FYI this was requested here as well: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=579820
