The Debian packages for PLplot 5.3.1 have been backported for Debian stable
(a.k.a "woody"). Instructions for accessing them through apt are available
at:
http://plplot.sourceforge.net/resources/
CAVEAT: the packages have not been extensively tested. At least the C
examples work fine.
