I just checked, and indeed I did commit that change from Gary 5 weeks ago.
But I totally forgot about it because there has been *a lot* of other CVS
commits since.
BTW, if you want to avoid the instability of using CVS HEAD, the differences
between Gary's version and the 5.0.1 version can be seen at
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/plplot/plplot/drivers/pbm.c.diff?r1=1.8&r2=1.9
