It's great you have finally been able to confirm this elusive error, Joao, for at least some X setups. Question for you (and Matt as well). For those cases where you are having X problems with PLplot can you run other X applications (e.g., xterm) without problems? I assume that is the case, but it should be confirmed. If xterm works but, e.g., ./x01c -dev xwin does not, it would be most interesting to compare the valgrind results in the two cases to see if this elusive problem has anything to do with memory management difficulties.
