Joao is having trouble getting mail to the list so I am forwarding this for
him.

I follow the receipt, and:

/usr/share/automake/install-sh

In the linux box where I made the tarball (after cvs update . and
./bootstrap.sh)  works OK.

I will look into this further.  I believe there is a tar parameter to
actually put a file in the tarball rather than just leaving a symlink as
happened to Joao above.  But if I cannot get that to work, I can always try
to maintain "make dist" for a while.
