I got back private response from Geoffrey supporting the idea of just going
ahead and changing this API since his judgement is that plpoly3 is not
that heavily used.

Therefore, I have gone ahead and made all the changes in CVS in a way which
I believe is consistent, and I also tested the results.  Joao also
encountered this problem before and solved it with his own version of
plpoly3.  I believe I have made the appropriate changes to support that
special version, but he may want to use the native version now in the
interests of simplicity.
