Thanks very much for these changes.  The non-default colour palette works
for me as well.

However, another problem seems to have been introduced on my system.

./x08c -dev tk

*** PLPLOT WARNING ***
Driver does not support hardware solid fills, switching to software fill.

That software fill is really slow and ugly (;-) compared to the hardware
fill we had before.
