Robert, one possible workaround is your SuSe distribution may have a
compatibility mode for autoconf version 2.1.3.  My distribution, Debian
woody, is in the middle of a transition from 2.1.3 to 2.5.2.  Apparently it
is a quite large transition, and it appears I am getting a compatibility
mode 2.1.3 if I just specify autoconf on the command line. Obviously SuSe
will have some different arrangement, but if there is a compatibility mode
for autoconf 2.1.3 please give that a try  (especially if Maurice has problems
finding a quick fix for 2.5.2).
