Which driver are you using?

xwin for example has an option "-drvopt unbuffered" which will disable buffering. There is no universal user level way of doing this and most other drivers don't have a similar option.

The variable plbuf_write in the PLStream structure controls whether writing to the buffer is allowed. You may be able to set this to 0 in the driver you are using to see if this fixes the problem.
