If you are using Debian, you should either grab the 5.0.2 packages for
potato in http://plplot.sourceforge.net/resources/debian/, or add the
following lines to your /etc/apt/sources.list file:

    deb http://plplot.sourceforge.net/resources/debian ./
    deb-src http://plplot.sourceforge.net/resources/debian ./

and use apt-get install.

The Debian packages are lagging behind the latest released version, but
5.0.2 should work okay for you.
