So I think this would be an ideal time to commit if you are willing to work until the release to make sure your new code is well integrated with the rest of PLplot. The only informal rule we have is please don't knowingly break CVS head for more than the time it takes to make all your commits. If you do break it for some combination of circumstances you haven't tested (like I just did, :-)), move fast to fix the problem when it is brought to your attention.
