Zope is a complete application server environment comparable to cold fusion in some respects. Its a much more complete environment than PHP/Perl/MySQL. Zope also uses lots of processor time and RAM which is one reason why its a bit more expensive and will probably never be as widely available as PHP/MySQL hosting as its simply more complicated. > I feel a bit vulnerable at the thought of moving to Zope/Plone and > having only a handful of hosting options. I'm certain you'll see the number of providers growing. I've already seen a significant growth in the last year. And as Martin noted, you can always set up your own server, be it a virtual OS (FreeBSD jail, VDS, etc.) which I have seen as cheap as $30 to $60/month or your own dedicated server which you can get for as little as $89/month. Additionally, you can always harvest your data from zope if you wanted to move to a different platform. Its not a simply operatiion but its feasible and there are lots of ISP's that support Python CGI so any investment in learning Python would not be lost. hth <--> george donnelly - http://zettai.net/ - "We Love Newbies" :) Zope Hosting - Dynamic Website Design - Search Engine Promotion Yahoo, AIM: zettainet - ICQ: 51907738 - e:ge...@ze... |
