I'm following up on your comment suggestion and will likely delete your 
comment when done. Just a note, however: LDAP isn't a Plone concept per 
se; LDAP as a concept is almost too common be expected to be explained 
on plone.org, and the internet is full of LDAP explanations already (see 
  RFC3377 at ftp://ftp.rfc-editor.org/in-notes/rfc3377.txt).
