Last year I met a really smart guy from Germany. (I am so wowed by people like Martin and that Grok guy that I subconsciously think that every programmer from Germany must be brilliant. Even though I hear horror stories about SAP that make me think this must not be so.) He told me that he had considered Plone for a project but went with Typo3 because the learning curve with Plone was too steep. He didn't feel he had the time to learn how to tweak Plone. Due to my own lack of diligence I have not learned to quickly customize Plone the way I want to either. I am not convinced that Plone would always be a better choice over Typo3 for someone who needs to get his project done quickly. I would try building a working prototype before recommending Plone. If you seem lost in a sea of Archetypes, ZPT and acquisition and unable to make simple changes then maybe Plone is not the right choice for you this time around. |
