I think there are many differences between both systems. but the two most important for me are: end user experience and architecture. I don't know if the typo's 3 backend had change, but when we used it was too difficult for end users there were too many options and none of our end-users had used it, although you can customize, i would expect to have solve that problem out of the box. With Plone the strory was better, same people now mantains the site's content. Other issue i saw in php cms's, there's no a framework layer as you'll find in Plone with Zope. Then is hard to divide application from the api and when you have to make some customization the api is not friendly enough. Plone is great but in the cms selection don't forget to consider the domain of your project and see what kind of features provides each one, just to mention one issue.
