Yes, CMFMember is a bit unpolished at the moment. It should work fine for Plone 1.0.x, though. It does not touch your acl_users folder, but it does replace the portal_memberdata, portal_membership, and portal_registration tools. We are going to do a cleanup of the code during the Snow Sprint, so watch for a Plone 2.0 compatible release in late February.
