As you say though - it doesn't do much - all it does is remove the CVS entry in the menu - you can still check out (and even commit to) the CVS repository. I guess I can prevent checkins by removing everyone's permissions to write to the repository. |

Fred, I think that's a splendid idea to remove the excess files. I have just done so. Perhaps the CVS link should stay for a bit longer. At any rate, it will probably take Steve's intervention to remove it and he probably = has higher priorities. John F. Forgot this one: (4) p-guide doesn't compile. It issues this error message: CreateWidget.cxx: In function 'puObject* createWidget(int)': CreateWidget.cxx:32: error: 'PUCLASS_SCROLLINGLIST' was not declared in this scope [...] CreateWidget.cxx:32: error: 'puaScrollingList' was not declared in this scope And, indeed: neither PUCLASS_SCROLLINGLIST nor puaScrollingList are defined anywhere in plib/svn. Some private widget that you never committed? Or is this a planned, new name for puList or puAuxList? m. |

* Fay John F Dr CTR USAF AFSEO/SK -- Thursday 19 October 2006 16:06: > With the new SVN access I am going through my old e-mails. Has this > bug been taken care of? Yes, this and other things are committed (and nobody complained yet :-). There are only three things to be fixed in plib to my knowledge: (1) the compilation breakage from a few days ago: you just need to remove the "puFilePicker.cxx" entry from src/pui/Makefile.am to fix it (2) the wrong widget numbers in src/puAux/puAux.h (0x02000000 and 0x04000000 are each used twice and thus ambiguous). Patch in this thread: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=30758823&forum_id=4479 (3) the input field is still broken: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=10523758&forum_id=4479 (there's sample code attached to this message) No need to look at any of my emails from before the SVN conversion discussion. Just these three things. m. |

Gentlemen, I have put the patch below from Melchior Franz into SVN. If it is not wanted, I can back it out; it is the sole change from 2090 to 2091 in SVN. John F. Subject: [Plib-devel] PU_USE_NONE & puInit() Projects that use more than one windowing interface, let's say SDL and GLUT, will probably have puInit() somewhere in their code. If now a third interface is to be added, for which plib has no setup -- using PU_USE_NONE --, then puInit() is undefined and causes an error. Of course, one can put an #ifndef PU_USE_NONE around it, but: would it be acceptable to define it empty in this case (see below)? One worry less for the plib user. m. Gentlemen, In an effort to fix the *nix build, I have removed the reference to "puFilePicker.cxx" from the "Makefile.am" in the "src/pui" directory. Subject: [Plib-devel] [BUG] puaComboBox: initial value isn't respected I hadn't noticed that there's another puaComboBox bug: The input field is now correctly updated, but the initial value isn't respected (see attached example code). This bug is probably related to the recent puInputBase change. This worked in puComboBox! Now I'm not sure if plib is really ready for release. How many more bugs are in the pua widgets, where their pui counterparts worked? ... or should I just choose another widget and stick with it? :-} m. |

Tinoshi Kitazawa wrote: > A very quick question: > > Do you think that PLIB will ever support (within the scenegraph) shadows (at > least planar) reflection or some other 'simple' stencil buffer related > stuff??? Well, it certainly doesn't handle that stuff directly right now. I think that a modern scene graph should make those kinds of things possible by providing the state and multipass hooks to make them possible - but there are just too many shadow and reflection algorithms out there (not one of which is both efficient and perfect) - and implementing them all would be painful and ugly. So I would hope to support FBO's and shaders and multipass - and leave the actual assembling of shadows and reflections to the developer. > It would be nice to set some traversing mask such as SSG_CAST_SHADOW or > SSG_REFLECT for every node.... It's not worth the effort within the present structure - because the present structure is in dire need of a near-total rewrite. But I think it naive to expect to be able to just turn on a flag and get shadows for all classes of object with good performance. |

A very quick question: Do you think that PLIB will ever support (within the scenegraph) shadows (at least planar) reflection or some other 'simple' stencil buffer related stuff??? It would be nice to set some traversing mask such as SSG_CAST_SHADOW or SSG_REFLECT for every node.... It is something I'd like to work on by my own, but I don't know if you think it is something PLIB really needs... Does it worth the effort? Juhana Sadeharju wrote: > Hello. When I first time did hear about plib, it sounded better > than anything. It was even used in game consoles. > > What is the status of plib now? Outdated? Yes - it's in quite severe need of major rework in the light of shaders, game physics, etc. I've been thinking about doing a 'PLIB-2.0' over Xmas (when I might have some time) - but the ideas for it are still stirring around in my head. There are really five major things: 1) Dump the audio library - build something new on top of OpenAL. 2) Merge the GUI library into the scene graph API. 3) Major surgery on the scene graph to support shaders, arbitary per-vertex data, FBO's, VBO's, etc. Dump all of the old-style OpenGL state and go for a 100% shader-based solution. 4) Support scripting inside the scene graph so that nodes can be customised. 5) Support 3D audio and rigid body physics within the scene graph. However, this would not be an evolutionary change - there would be no forwards, backwards or sideways compatibility. |

Hello. When I first time did hear about plib, it sounded better than anything. It was even used in game consoles. What is the status of plib now? Outdated? Juhana -- http://music.columbia.edu/mailman/listinfo/linux-graphics-dev for developers of open source graphics software |

HOORAY! I can make SVN changes to PLIB! (It's only taken about ten years ...) I fixed the MSVC project file to remove the files that aren't used any more ... We should probably remove the files themselves as well. I also removed the "puFilePicker" widget from PUI as it was deprecated in favor of the "puFileSelector" which has now been removed as well.
