Patches item #1110117, was opened at 2005-01-26 13:39 Message generated for change (Comment added) made by seanegan You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=300235&aid=1110117&group_id=235 Category: Plugins Group: None >Status: Closed >Resolution: Rejected Priority: 5 Submitted By: Robert Mende (mendepie) Assigned to: Sean Egan (seanegan) Summary: Timestamp new conversations Initial Comment: The attached patch against gaim-1.1.2 (was built vs. a earlier version but is still valid) adds two new features to the timestamp plugin. 1) Adds a checkbox to Only timestap Start of Conversation 2) Allows for the Timestamp format to be controled. The default is the same, but you can add a date. The reason I did this is that I have had cases where I have left my work IM running over a weekend, and get an IM and I dont know when it comes from, and I dont like the timestamping of every message. I realized that I wanted the ability to have a iChat style timestamp at the begining of a converstation that included the date. This patch allows me to do that. I think that others would appreciate it as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Sean Egan (seanegan) Date: 2005-02-02 18:59 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=199625 Having a preference to specify the timestamp format is good! But not like this. Expecting the user to "man strftime" is wrong. Expecting them to even *know* what strftime is is wrong. Find another, natrual, way. Adding a "only timestamp start of conversation" preference... I just don't see the point. You should just check the logs, if you log. Also, there's an iChat-style timestamp plugin in preferences > plugins. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Robert Mende (mendepie) Date: 2005-01-27 23:01 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=208709 While I think that #2 can be addressed by adding the date to the timestamp (I use "%F %H:%M" as opposed to the current "%H:%M"). This format (YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM) should be local independant. As for #1 the main reason that I did this patch was to get the "start of conversation only" functionality. How about using checkbox for "Only timestamp start of conversation" and either hardwire the new format or put it in a xml preference without a prefrences panel control for it? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Mark Doliner (thekingant) Date: 2005-01-27 21:44 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=20979 I think I'm against adding #1 and I'm somewhat in favor of adding the date for every timestamp (and NOT making it an option). I think I'd want to see a screenshot or two... I imagine Sean will have an opinion about this. (FYI, we're trying to avoid adding preferences) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=300235&aid=1110117&group_id=235 |
