Summary: Expanded Categories/Shopping Sites
Initial Comment:
Don suggested I RFE'd an email I sent him earlier about
expanding the remit of phpwsListings in a more shop
style....
I'm doing a shopping cart/payment gateway mod at the
moment and phpwsListing is on the face of it, nearly good
enough to use as a shop mod provided I add on a payment
method. Where there is a 'Mortgage calculator' plugin now, I
add in an 'add to cart' button. Simple enough.
The one thing I'd like to see though is an expanded way of
categorizing items.
As an example, say I'm a department store like http://
www.johnlewis.com
I sell clothes, bedding, tools, crockery... etc.
At the moment, phpwslistings has 'Listing class' so I could
define a class for t-shirts (which come in S, M, L, XL) and
ties (just the one size) and the forms would be just fine.
These are both in the clothing department so it would be
also useful to classify them as 'clothes'.
Either you need to provide a mechanism of grouping listing
classes or perhaps use fatcat to categorize them. That'd also
tie in nicely with the rest of phpwebsite and offer multiple
levels of categories.
Once you've added categories, it opens up another bunch of
possibilities like a lead listing or 'main featured listing' for
that category. You could also do random listings within the
category too.
The other feature there would be 'Best Sellers' if I get the
cart software up to scratch although perhaps 'Most Viewed'
would also be nice for non-shop sites. 'Latest listings' might
be good too. There's a whole bunch of blocks there. ;-)
