I think the XML-RPC idea is great. (Out of curiousity, are there any other "standard" wiki RPC API's besides the one at JSPWiki?) Sadly, I can't get http://phpwiki.sourceforge.net/demo/RPC2.php to work. (All I get is 'Unknown Method' errors.) I've tried pointing the XML-RPC validator at http://validator.xmlrpc.com/ at the demo server, and it, too, failed with 'Unknown Method' on all it's tests. (The validator passes on http://xmlrpc.usefulinc.com:80/demo/server.php, which is the demo site for the PHP XML-RPC library you're using...) Any ideas on what might be wrong? |

I'll add more to support customizable Info, but Info as it is now shouldn't go away imho. At least until we got the outstanding markup problems fixed: Tables with new markup, inline plugins with old markup. BTW: I also thought of some kind of strftime formatting for current local times somewhere else, e.g. in russia or new zealand. Current time in Moskow: <?plugin CurrentTime timezone="EET+1 DST" format="%X" locale="ru" ?>. Now it's <?plugin CurrentTime timezone="PST DST" format="%X" ?> in California and <?plugin CurrentTime timezone="EST DST" format="%X" ?> in New York. This wouldn't be possible with SystemInfo alone. -- Reini Urban http://xarch.tu-graz.ac.at/home/rurban/ |

I have recently come across www.gmane.org, and find it invaluable for helping me manage the traffic from a number a lists to which I subscribe. It offers the following: 1) A mailing list to news (nntp) gateway, allowing you to read mailing lists using a news reader and treat the messages as news (eg watch threads, ignore posters etc - not that I would do that to anyone on *this* list) 2) A useful (unlike SF/ Geocrawler), archive accessible by http, which does not expire messages. Searching is coming soon. 3) The ability to filter spam and cross posted messages 4) The ability to post from anywhere, whether or not subscribed. Measures are taken to prevent flooding/spam etc Any thoughts about whether this list should be archived there? My vote is yes. Lawrence |

There are 2 <BR>Primary methods to <BR>get this venture going: METHOD # 1: BY SENDING BULK E-MAIL <BR>LEGALLY<BR><BR>=================================================================<BR>=====================<BR><BR>Let's say that you decide to start small, just to see how it <BR>goes, and we will <BR>assume You and those involved send out only 5,000 e-mails each. <BR>Let's also <BR>assume that the mailing receive only a 0.2% response (the <BR>response could be much <BR>better but lets just say it is only 0.2%. Also many people will <BR>send out <BR>hundreds of thousands e-mails instead of only 5,000 each). <BR>Continuing with this <BR>example, you send out only 5,000 e-mails. With a 0.2% response, <BR>that is only 10 <BR>orders for report # 1. Those 10 people responded by sending out <BR>5,000 e-mail <BR>each for a total of 50,000. Out of those 50,000 e-mails only 0.2% <BR>responded with <BR>orders. That's=100 people esponded and ordered Report # 2. Those <BR>100 people mail <BR>out 5,000 e-mails each for a total of 500,000 e-mails. The 0.2% <BR>response to that <BR>is 1000 orders for Report # 3.Those 1000 people send out 5,000 <BR>e-mails each for <BR>a total of 5million e-mails sent out. The 0.2% response to that <BR>is 10,000 orders <BR>for Report # 4. Those 10,000 people send out 5,000 e-mails each <BR>for a total of <BR>50,000,000(50 million) e-mails. The 0.2% response to that is <BR>100,000 orders for <BR>Report # 5 THAT'S 100,000 ORDERS TIMES $5 EACH=$500,000.00 (half <BR>million).<BR><BR>Your total income in this example is:<BR><BR>1.... $50 +<BR><BR>2.... $500 +<BR><BR>3.... $5,000 +<BR><BR>4.. $50,000 +<BR><BR>5.... $500,000 Grand Total=$555,550.00<BR><BR>NUMBERS DO NOT LIE. GET A PENCIL & PAPER AND FIGURE OUT THE WORST <BR>POSSIBLE <BR>RESPONSES AND NO MATTER HOW YOU CALCULATE IT, YOU WILL STILL MAKE <BR>A <ST1:PLACE>LOT</ST1:PLACE> OF MONEY <BR>!<BR><BR>=================================================================<BR>=====================<BR><BR>REMEMBER FRIEND, THIS IS ASSUMING ONLY 10 PEOPLE ORDERING OUT OF <BR>5,000 YOU <BR>MAILED TO. Dare to think for a moment what would happen if <BR>everyone or half or <BR>Even one 4th of those people mailed 100,000e-mails each or more? <BR>There are over <BR>150 million people on the Internet worldwide and counting. <BR>Believe me, many <BR>people will do just that, and more! METHOD # 2 : BY PLACING FREE <BR>ADS ON THE <BR>INTERNET<BR><BR>=================================================================<BR>=====================<BR><BR>Advertising on the net is very inexpensive and there are hundreds <BR>of FREE places <BR>to advertise. Placing a lot of free ads on the Internet will <BR>easily get a larger <BR>response. We strongly suggest you start with Method # 1 and add <BR>METHOD # 2 as <BR>you go along. For every $5 you receive, all you must do is e-mail <BR>them the <BR>Report they ordered. That's it. Always provide same day service <BR>on all orders. <BR>This will guarantee that the e-mail they send out, with your name <BR>and address on <BR>it, will be prompt because they can not advertise until they <BR>receive the report.<BR><BR>================================AVAILABLE <BR>REPORTS===================================<BR><BR>ORDER EACH REPORT BY ITS NUMBER & NAME ONLY. Notes: Always send <BR>$5 cash (U.S. <BR>CURRENCY) for each Report. Checks NOT accepted. Make sure the <BR>cash is concealed <BR>by wrapping it in at least 2 sheets of paper. On one of those <BR>sheets of paper, <BR>Write the NUMBER & the NAME of the Report you are ordering, YOUR <BR>E-MAIL ADDRESS <BR>and your name and postal address. I just set up phpwiki on my own site two days ago and think it is great. I just have a couple questions. I tried browsing through this mailing list (no searching??), and looking through http://phpwiki.sourceforge.net/phpwiki but I haven't been able to figure a couple things out. The biggest is I'd like to have my /phpwiki/index.php work as my root index.php file. I thought that symlinking would work, but that gives Fatal error: Failed opening required 'lib/ErrorManager.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php') in /home/httpd/htdocs/phpwiki/lib/prepend.php on line 11 So I looked and found the notes on http://phpwiki.sourceforge.net/phpwiki/PrettyWiki and figured that would do the trick, but then, making the changes to a copy of /phpwiki/index.php that I placed in /htdocs, I get the following errors: phpwiki/lib/DbaDatabase.php:32: Fatal[256]: driver initialization failed phpwiki/lib/Theme.php:153: Notice[1024]: MacOSX.css: not found phpwiki/lib/Theme.php:153: Notice[1024]: phpwiki-printer.css: not found phpwiki/lib/Theme.php:153: Notice[1024]: phpwiki-modern.css: not found Fatal PhpWiki Error phpwiki/lib/DbaDatabase.php:32: Fatal[256]: driver initialization failed So now I'm stuck with an index.html which is just a redirect (via <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url=http://www.foo.com/phpwiki"> ), which is clunky and I don't like it. If anyone could help me, I'd appreciate it. The other problem I'm working on is figuring out how to format what goes on outside the editable boxes. I've not looked at php before, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. Of course, if someone wants to give me a shortcut.... Thanks, Lang |

I am a little concerned about giving everyone the chance to find out my disk space size, and certain other things about my server. Why, for example, should anyone need to know what version of php I am running? There may be other security implications. However, I had been thinking of something similar. In particular, we could use something like this to replace Info and DebugInfo. We could have a plugin which displays info about a particular page, eg <?plugin pageinfo LastModified> or <?plugin pageinfo Markup>. It could be used, for example, do display a hit counter on any page. <?plugin pageinfo all> could display the same info as, and replace, the current Info page. Lawrence |

Comments to this new plugin, which is not in CVS yet? http://phpwiki.sourceforge.net/phpwiki/SystemInfo http://phpwiki.sourceforge.net/demo/en/SystemInfo I invented a new plugin argument syntax, because there can be so many boolean args, I wanted to keep it short but still customizable, and I don't need any non-boolean argument, besides the seperator on multiple arguments used. I have checked in the files necessary for an XML-RPC interface, in line with the spec at http://www.ecyrd.com/JSPWiki/Wiki.jsp?page=WikiRPCInterface My tests so far suggest that it works (!), but I would appreciate any feedback. To use the interface, point your XML-RPC client at http://path.to.phpwiki/WikiXMLRPC.php For example, if your wiki is normally at www.example.com/phpwiki/index.php, the XML-RPC interface will be at www.example.com/phpwiki/WikiXMLRPC.php The interface should be available on the test wiki after the nightly update. I submit this partly as information and partly as entertainment. (Infotainment?) I was looking over the list of Wiki projects on Sourceforge. There are a lot of forks of the DolphinWikiWeb, and many in Java (perhaps the most implementations these days are in Java. Sounds like a lot of pain going around out there ;-) Wiki!: A flat file only Wiki in PHP. I installed it and followed the readme.txt but could not log in. Released August 2002. http://sourceforge.net/projects/wiki/ Bethelite Content Management System: You know you're successful when your code has been forked. BCMS is a branch of the 1.2 PhpWiki. Installation requires a lot of configuration to make it secure, so I didn't test it. Released August 2002. http://sourceforge.net/projects/bethelite/ Icky: no files released sadly, but you have to love the name. It potentially will be a Wiki in Python. (In English, "icky" means "digusting"). http://sourceforge.net/projects/icky/ AwkiAwki: Long ago I toyed with writing a Wiki in Awk. There were some severe shortcomings though... you had to use a shell to get certain things done and that seemed like a very bad idea. Also hasn't released any files... http://sourceforge.net/projects/awkiawki/ groovyphp: did not work out of the box as advertised (well, it told me it made a page after three error messages appeared.. truth is in the eye of the beholder). The example url provided crashes Mozilla. http://sourceforge.net/projects/groovyphp/ Searching Google for "php wiki documentation" (one of our pages) yeilds 575 hits. This page was added by Carsten to our distro on 1/12/2002. ~swain --- http://www.panix.com/~swain/ "Without music to decorate it, time is just a bunch of boring production deadlines or dates by which bills must be paid." -- Frank Zappa |

Attached is my phpweather version, which works with the latest release version 1.61, which is very old. this has no classes. I only added dba support recently to this 1.61 version for simplier testing. and fixed some dbm typos. I cannot just test it enough, because the weather server doesn't let me in via http. With ftp it's too slow and the dirs changed. Martin Geisler schrieb: > Reini Urban <ru...@x-...> writes: > You're welcome - and thanks for the initial code for a PhpWeather > plugin.
