I'm concerned about the security setup and also rather frustrated. Anyone want to relieve my anxiety or have an idea about how to handle this? The statement in the security documentation that some files need to be = "writable" is not very helpful. I looked at the shell script and it appears = that what this means is 777 (read, write, and execute for users, owner, and = groups).=20 I seem to have a number of things that aren't working on my test installation = that I'm guessing are file permission related. But, without any confidence that the security is setup properly or that I even = know how permissions should be setup is quite frustrating. The manul = instructions state that you shouldn't do a manual security setup unless you = know what you are doing. Well. OK. But, what are the settings actually supposed = to be? I set the my test installation using the guidlines. (Don't know if it is = correct because I had to guess at what the instructions actually meant.) For those who are concerned with the usability and security of phpWebSite, I = suggest that you go through and do a manual security setup on the files and = directories to see just how long it takes and how error prone it can be. I'm also concerned about setting something wrong in the process of doing an = update or other maintenance and leaving a security hole. phpWebSite is going to suffer in popularity if there is not a clear, easy, and = quick way to set security and to verify that it is set correctly - especially = given the large number of files and directories distributed across the system = that need different settings. Many web hosts do not allow shell access, so, the scripts provided are useless = to many. I've been looking at the directory structure and I have a major concern.=20 The theme and template files are distributed into numerous directories and = reside in places like mod subdirectories. I perceive this to be a maintenance = nightmare. As we all know, the most time consuming aspect of setting up a = phpWebsite installation is creating or customizing the theme. Assume for a = moment that I customize the clean theme for a website I'm doing. Then along = comes an upgrade. How do I load the updated code without overwriting theme and = template modules distributed accross the system - thereby frying the website? Maybe you guys have thought about this? I'm trying to use textpad to look at and update some template and theme files. = I can view the files, but, I just get a blank screen when I try to edit a file = via textpad. I tried this in the demo and textpad is completely dead in the = demo.=20 I've tried going through and setting everything I can find to 777 just to = eliminate file permissions as a possibility. Any suggestions? Geoff Staples Hostricity Web Hosting www.Hostricity.com 214.599.0260 ge...@ho... 3883 Turtle Creek Blvd., Suite 1812 Dallas, Texas 75219 |

Yeah I read about that. Sometimes I wonder why people put up with Microsoft and let themselves be taken advantage of. Also when this story was posted on slashdot, I read a comment to the effect of "if you use opera, why are you going to a Microsoft website?". Made me smile. Don. I used Adam's build_phpws.sh. When I go to my site I get this: Notice: Undefined variable: hub_dir in /home/httpd/htdocs/index.php on line 28 Warning: Cannot add header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/httpd/htdocs/index.php:28) in /home/httpd/htdocs/index.php on line 36 I noticed tha this line is: $hub_dir = $hub_dir; I also noticed that error_reporting is set to E_ALL. Am I just trying this at a bad time in the midst of testing? Or do we want it to run great at the E_ALL level in response to the earlier emails? Anyway this error is at the beginning and prevents anything from happening. FYI. Don. |

yes, every where you have a backend.php rdf feed. You can use feedit to display the announcments. I dont think we will call it backend.php anymore, legacy nuke. The soap part may come latter the first part will be a custom type that will look more like just a serialized object data chunk. The reason for this is speed/bandwitdh. If you put this type of thing in such a type as xml you first have to build the file and then send a file that now contains double the data. You then have to turn around a parce the file again to get you data. This is two steps you may not want. The network will still do a universal type(xml, soap) but there will also be a custom phpws <--> phpws type that will allow for much greater speed and lower bandwidth usage. As planes go you will be able to have this on a http or https pipe. You will also be able to restrict network access with both phpws and apache for max security. > On Thu, 2003-02-13 at 08:10, Brian W. Brown wrote: >> Perhaps in a limited form. One question I have about theme creation is... How do you replace the orange round icons ?? when I read the theme_creation.txt (version 1.3) lines 319-334 ****************************319** Images Directory ---------------------- This could be a storage place for your theme.tpl graphics if you wanted to, but it serves a more important purpose. If a module developer codes their module to take advantage of image swapping, then you can easily adapt their module to your theme. All you need to do is copy an identically named graphic into a directory named the same as the module. For example, some of the original module icons are hideous (I can say that, I made them ;-), so for the Default theme, I wanted something more simple. Since the "users" module handles the module icons, I just placed Default's new, little, orange icons in the themes/Default/images/users/ directory. Voila! Those are used instead of the blocky blue ones. Not all modules may take advantage of this, but if you ask the module developer, it is easy for them to support it. Check the module's documentation for more details. ****************************334** I tried this.. I would like to replace the orange icons.. with something else... I am assuming that since the users module was written as an example in this document, that it should work.. since not all modules may take advantage of this feature. what I did was take the user.gif out of ./mod/user/img and placed a black&white copy in ./themes/MyThemName/images/users/ this didn't work.. so I also created a ./themes/MyThemName/images/users/img/ and place it in their as well. No luck :( Is this feature still available ??? or am I reading something wrong ?? Scott |

Hello All, For anyone out there using the PHPWS_Manager class Adam and I implemented, I would like to let you know about some new functionality I haved added. Manager will now page lists for you if you'd like. You can set a paging variable for each of your lists in the manager.php config file. It will look something like this: $savedPaging = array("op"=>"PHPWS_MAN_OP=list", "limit"=>10, "section"=>1, "limits"=>array(5,10,25,50), "back"=>"<<", "forward"=>">>"); /* meanings */ "op"=>the operation to get back to the list "limit"=>the default limit you want the lsit to start out with "section"=>whether or not you want it to create section links "limits"=>the alternative limit you want you user to be able to set "back"=>the string it will use for the back link "forward"=>the string it will use for the forward link If this variable does not exists then the list simply won't page. You can find an updated version of the example config file at: docs/developers/manager.php.txt Enjoy! -- Steven Levin Electronic Student Services Appalachian State University Phone: 828.262.2431 PhpWebsite Development Team URL: http://phpwebsite.appstate.edu Email: st...@NO... |

This issue seems to be picking up lately so i want to let everyone know what not to do. If your email comes in html format it is seen as SPAM and is held for approval. Only email in plain text are allowed to the list. So in short you will get a message that basically says "Your message had a suspicious header." if you sent it in both formats or just html. The second part is not an issue but i wanted to let everyone know about it. non-members are not allowed to post. This helps cut down on SPAM. So just a word of caution don't send email from an address not on the list. -- Jeremy Agee phpWebSite Development Team (http://phpwebsite.appstate.edu) Appalachian State University SF.net id: jagee or 94756 |
