Over looked that one thanks. I posted a question about having blocks both down the left and right side earlier today on phpweblog.org before thinking about the mailing list. Is there a way to have them on both sides of the page? Tom PS Love phpweblog. -----Original Message----- From: php...@li... on a sidenote, i just downloaded PHPEd for windows today and it KICKS ASS, especially for anything concerning php and mysql. for a good time i suggest it. it doesn't have all the fancy HTML stuff like homesite but it's worth a look/try, i think i'll use both. it lists out all your classes and functions on the side ... ! this of course until i get rid of windows, which will happen eventually once i get linux to like my video/sound cards, printer and DSL. phew. phped : just type phped in google and it will be the first link, as always, google rules. philip |

Not quite. Think of it as it being exactly how it is now, where the layout manager does all of the layout configuration stuff, except now, the HTML will be pulled from these template files instead of hardcoded. So by default, everything will act the same, except you'll notice that there aren't as much options available in the layout manager. To future customize, you just edit these template files. It's MUCH more simplier than the way you described. =] Jason philip olson wrote: > > okay, so : > > we'll be given these various files to play with (ex. story.tmpl) which we'll > have the listed variables to play with , at which case our website will consist > of including these files ? so my stories page could look like : > > <table width="600"> > <tr> > <td wdith="600"><? include "head.tmpl"; ?></td> > </tr> > <tr> > <td width="150"><? include "block.tmpl"; ?></td> > <td width="450"><? include "story.tmpl"; ?></td> > </tr> > </table> > > with head.tmpl looking something like : > > <table> > <tr> > <td><? echo "$title of my site : $date"; ?></td> > </tr> > </tr> > <td><? echo "$content"; ?></td> > </tr> > </table> > > forgive my html as the above would look like crap, just a quick example . so i > guess my question is, how would we implement this, could you give an example? i > cannot seem to grasp what you are talking about ;) and my gut tells me what i > wrote above is very wrong. > > regardless i know it's going to make me and others very happy, customizability > is VERY good, i just w ant to know how to i can comment on my feelings. of > course anyones thoughts on the matter are appreciated. > > philip > > _______________________________________________ > phpWebLog-devel mailing list > php...@li... > http://lists.sourceforge.net/mailman/listinfo/phpweblog-devel -- "The power of the unsaid." |

okay, so :
we'll be given these various files to play with (ex. story.tmpl) which we'll
have the listed variables to play with , at which case our website will consist
of including these files ? so my stories page could look like :
<table width="600">
<tr>
<td wdith="600"><? include "head.tmpl"; ?></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width="150"><? include "block.tmpl"; ?></td>
<td width="450"><? include "story.tmpl"; ?></td>
</tr>
</table>
with head.tmpl looking something like :
<table>
<tr>
<td><? echo "$title of my site : $date"; ?></td>
</tr>
</tr>
<td><? echo "$content"; ?></td>
</tr>
</table>
forgive my html as the above would look like crap, just a quick example . so i
guess my question is, how would we implement this, could you give an example? i
cannot seem to grasp what you are talking about ;) and my gut tells me what i
wrote above is very wrong.
regardless i know it's going to make me and others very happy, customizability
is VERY good, i just w ant to know how to i can comment on my feelings. of
course anyones thoughts on the matter are appreciated.

I've begun work on the new templating system. Though this will considerably reduce the options available in the current layout manager (curve, border, many color fields, etc), this will allow for phpWebLog to look just about way you could want by editing the template HTML file. Initially, there will be just one set of template files which can be edited manually. I hope to eventually expand this so there can be multiple sets of templates which will be associated by your layout, and can be edited through the admin page. Below you'll see the files, and the variables associated to each file which can be added into the html file painlessly. (no effort at all) Quick example of a template file: --- <td bgcolor="#333333">Posted under $topic by $author on $date</td> --- <a> tags will be automatically into the variables. phpweblog-0.4.0/inc.d/template/block.tmpl $heading $content $date phpweblog-0.4.0/inc.d/template/summary.tmpl $heading $author $address $topic $topicimage $date $content $comments $modified phpweblog-0.4.0/inc.d/template/story.tmpl $heading $author $address $topic $topicimage $date $content phpweblog-0.4.0/inc.d/template/comment.tmpl $author $address $date $content phpweblog-0.4.0/inc.d/template/main.tmpl $heading $content phpweblog-0.4.0/inc.d/template/header.tmpl $logo $search This is not quite functional in all areas yet, so the unstable is not ready. I'll post another message when I got more of this operational. Comments, suggestions, etc.. more than welcome. Jason |

it's for creating new pages. you add words, it creates a page and puts a link to that page in the nav bar. philip > -----Original Message----- > From: php...@li... > [mailto:php...@li...]On Behalf Of Stephen > Lawrence > Sent: Saturday, July 15, 2000 10:47 AM > To: phpweblog > Subject: [phpWebLog-devel] What are pages? > > > What does the "pages" function do in the admin menu? What does the "pages" function do in the admin menu? I have been trying to include a local file as a page, but it continues to say "page not found". I am using the full path to the file, not URL. - Stephen Lawrence Jr. |

Any plans for a place for us to submit these?
Here is a nutter quick hack for displaying
recent toys in an include block.
Table:

RID int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment,
Title varchar(128),
date timestamp(14),
link text,
PRIMARY KEY (RID)

$result = mysql_query($sql,$db);

Any plans for a place for us to submit these?
Here is a nutter quick hack for displaying
recent toys in an include block.
Table:
# Table structure for table 'T_DVD'
#
CREATE TABLE T_DVD (
RID int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment,
Title varchar(128),
date timestamp(14),
link text,
PRIMARY KEY (RID)
);
Include:
<?php
$limit = 5;
$sql = "SELECT * FROM T_DVD";
$sql .= " ORDER BY date DESC LIMIT $limit";
#$result = mysql_query($sql,$db);
$result = mysql_query($sql,$db);
for ($i=0;$i<$limit;$i++) {
$A = mysql_fetch_array($result);
$foo = $A["Title"];
printf("<li><a class=\"none\" href=\"%s\"
target=_blank>%s</a></li>\n",$A["li
nk"],$foo);
}
?>

Well, honestly, I can't remember the font name off-hand. I created this logo (which is based from themes.org) with Photoshop using a true-type font. I'm at work, away from my windows machine at the mom... wait. heh.. I just remembered. The font is called Soopafresh. Foreground color is #5e7eb2, background color is #284c82. I used the stroke command with #ffffff to give it that outline, then added a slight drop shadow with 50% opacity. Something like that at least.. In inc.d/common.inc.php, you may need to add "img" to the $allowed_html() array. By default this is off. Hi, in 0.2.4 I was able to include images in artices by adding <img> tags in the storie. But on 0.3.0 the pictures aren't showing up. I've set the html to all three choices (yes , code, no) and it's not showing up (although 'code' prints the actual img tag). Is there a was for me to get my pics back? D dho...@th... |

Philip, Sorry! my browser had <g> </g> support turned off....But, seriously, if something is well put together one would hope that documentation could be kept to a minimum, since everything would be so "intuitive" (whatever that means). Reminds me of what has been happening at Phorum. They have a special "support" phorum that consists of nothing but questions, with a rare answer. They also have a "documentation" project at SourceForge - the last time I looked it hadn't started. I always thought Phorum was the greatest of its kind, but it's listed at no. 6 in the Top 10 at Hotscripts, below a lot of other similar applications. Then there are all the people bitching that Phorum is a pain to install - I'm the type of guy who has to consult my wall each time I decompress a tarball for the proper command and my UNIX for Dummies every time I visit my server - and I never had any problem installing it. So I guess if one is aiming at becoming popular among the masses, some sort of documentation is a necessary evil. <g>Maybe some variant of M$'s defunct Ask Bob could be built into phpWeblog, or a popup FAQ of the Day...</g> I guess I was thinking more in terms of a general tool that could be used on sites that weren't not necessarily concerned with PHP, Apache, Linux etc and could generate a set of whatever is needed, although I agree something like http://www.faqts.com/knowledge-base/index.phtml/fid/522/lang/en et al are really great.
