I've performed a brand new install of phpvirtualbox on a new server and I'm running into a repeating issue. The issue seems to exist across multiple configurations on both Debian and Ubuntu Server. At this stage, I'm not sure what's going wrong.
Once complete I was able to access the webpage for phpvirtualbox and create a VM. However, any attempt to edit the VM after creation would lead to a long wait followed by a General Communication Failure notice. The same failure notice would occur if any changes were made to the phpvirtualbox preferences (eg. VM location). Note that the changes made do not persist following the failure notice. No settings/config checks of settings turned up anything. Clearing the browser cache (just in case that held something over from the previous install) did not help.
Browsers: Firefox 44.02, Chrome 48.0
Server Distro: Ubuntu Server 15.10 (64bit), Debian 8.3.0 (64bit)
VirtualBox/phpvirtualbox locations: on same server.
VirtualBox version: 5.0.16
phpvirtualbox version: 5.0-5
Any help would be appreciated.

The first few installs were done by hand. The last few (one on Debian, three on Ubuntu) all followed this particular guide to the letter (minus the username/password which were my own and with adjustments to account for updated versions of the software): http://www.unixmen.com/install-oracle-virtualbox-and-manage-it-using-phpvirtualbox-on-ubuntu-15-10-headless-server/
