#28 MySQL does not function

I have tried multiple times to get mySQL running, but
it isn't - the console opens for about 15 seconds,
then exits, and no programs can connect to it. No
error messages. The system is running Windows 2000
with the latest service pack.

Same here im running windows xp professional and it wont
work im going to download version 2.11 since i have 1.3 to
see if it works.

I had the same problem trying to used either mysqld (the NT
service executable) or mysqlshutdown from the start menu
links. I didn't get any error messages, but the service
never started. I ended up using winmysqladmin in the same
directory ("c:\apache\mysql\bin") by defaultand just added
a link from this to my start menu.

Found the solution!!!!

There's is another post about this problem.

c:\apache\mysql\bin\mysqld.exe --basedir=C:\apache\mysql

(just change the target for the shortcut)
